Episode VIII production photos (possible spoilers)

The Daily Mail posted a slew of set photos from the Dubrovnik location for Ep VIII. Looks like we'll see more "civilization" in this one, and sort of gives it a prequel-ish visual.

Hmm... the black and white costumes look a little too much like something from real life, IMO.

So happy to see the practical effects for aliens is staying. I know JJ was big on it, but who knew what the director Rian Johnson was gonna do.

 

WTH? James Bond meets Men In Black! I cannot wait to see what that's all about.

EM Yep, I felt that to. Which seems to me to tie in with the leaked rumored title.

 

Next up: aboard a yacht!

I appreciate the fact that they are using a real ocean and a real boat and a bare minimum of green screen. It's those little things that set this new trilogy orders of magnitude above the horrid prequels.

It's a Star wars themed booze cruise!






Certain set photos look like they're from an episode of "Doctor Who"

Then I remembered they filmed in Croatia too for "Vampires In Venice"

 

I really gotta start watching Dr. Who one of these days. I was thinking they look like something out of Titanic.

 

A plain old boat? How retro! But that thing should be flying around! This is Star Wars dammit!

 

I'm sure it flies, as did Jabba's barge.

 

Yeah, no doubt that it will be fully replaced by a CGI boat or sailsomething.

 

It actually looks a little like the 5th element. Kind of a Moebius vibe.

 

I really like the fact they are using practical sets and locations this much- it does make a difference.

 

Someone needs to Photoshop out those ghastly sets and put in some green screen!

 

And get rid of all those people and put some CGI synthespians in there instead.

 

Gungans. Lots of Gungans.

 

Aliens in formal wear? Kind of an odd look for Star Wars.

 

How such fashion ever found its way into the galaxy? I wouldn't lie, I genuinely found those photos surreal and disturbing. So anachronistic and anachoristic as if a rift has opened between the galaxies. The only thing missing is Patrick Steward making a cameo as a X-wing pilot who has opinions to share about those dated clothing customs.

 

Millions to trillions of worlds. Something will be in fashion someplace.

The only high life time we got in Star Wars that wasn't military was I think the Opera house in Revenge of the Sith.

 

Definitely agree on both, though I'm also getting a serious "Hunger Games" vibe, especially from those yacht shots. Diggin' it though.
