Episode 8 title soon?

Solid Snack

Lieutenant Commander

We're at pretty much the same point in the production of the film (more or less), with just a bit over a year to go; and of course it's highly probable Disney will put up some kind of teaser in front of Rogue One (Which I think is something they've done with the Marvel films as well)-so can we probably expect a title soon? TFA was announced 11/6/2014 I believe.

Safe to say it'll be with the first teaser and Rogue One's release seems the logical time for it to drop. We'll just have to wait and see though.

Unlike The Force Awakens, which I couldn't wait for the title. I'm pretty chill about this one, I haven't even really thought about it. Probably because of Rogue One but yeah I guess it should be soon.

I think they don't want to steal Rogue One's thunder just yet because it is the big experiment. Can they produce a full live action theatrical release between Episode and still make a profit? Will people go to see a movie that has basically none of the old main cast in it at all and has little to do with anyone named Skywalker as far as the public is concerned.

Yes Darth Vader is in it, and yes the movie does have the event of stealing the Death Star plans we see a the driving force of the original film in 1977 (where is R2-D2 and the plans?), but The Heroes of Yavin and basically ever main character is missing from this film. Aside from of course, Darth Vader.

I actually think this is the film's strength. Practically the entire cast is expendable AND there's no Jedi to save them when big black shows up. These Rebels are so screwed.

Yes, it's a bit of a gamble, but how many fans are ready to see classic Imperial and Rebel technology? As someone who was there in '77, seeing Tie Fighters and X-Wings in the trailer was a thrill far beyond what I saw in the Force Awakens spots--with the exception of the Falcon, that is.

The reveal of the Falcon in TFA, with the musical queue that went with it, was one of the highlights of the film in terms of just a fitting moment.

And yes I think most of the cast of Rogue One are going to die in the film. Not all to Darth Vader, but some. I figure this because of what we see him doing in Star Wars back in 1977. He's chasing down Princess Leia to recover the plans of the Death Star, but he seems more interested in finding the Rebel's secret base, ad feels Leia is his only link to the Rebels. If any of the Rogue One team was alive, they would either have the plans to take back to Yavin, or have been captured and be tortured by Vader to find the Rebels hidden fortress. So, logic suggest that they died. Also Vader seemed that pissed off when he boarded Leia's ship. Like it has been a rough day so far, and now he has to deal with this Senator's daughter.

Agreed. The director has said the film ends about 10 minutes before Star Wars begins.

And yes, I'm aware the first film is now A New Hope, but when I saw it, it was simply Star Wars. It'll always just be Star Wars, Empire and Jedi for me.:)

Seems like pretty obvious dialog to me. Even if it's not entirely accurate, I'm sure that sentiment will be uttered at some point during episode VIII.

I'm still thinking about the Skywalker name. I don't think Rey is Luke's daughter, so how will the Skywalker name carry on? Kathleen Kennedy stated that the episode films are about the Skywalker family. If that is still the case, I wonder if Luke maybe had a son and he will be the big reveal at the end of episode VIII? Maybe he and Rey will be the ones to have children and allow the Skywalker line to carry on?

Well, if Ben/Kylo is redeemed he could always be the Solo/Skywalker who continues the family.

Possibly, but if he does redeem himself, I think it'll come at the cost of his own life. Very Shakespearean.

I do think Ben will redeem himself. TFA set him up pretty well for it. I just wonder if he'll continue to follow his grandfather's path and give up his life in doing so.

But if he does die, and if Lucasfilm is adamant about the saga films being ultimately about the Skywalker bloodline, then either he'll need a love interest of his own or Rey is Luke's daughter. Because we know Disney will do another saga trilogy at some point. Maybe not right away, but eventually.

Haven't they already said that? I thought I remembered them the calling this the first new trilogy like they already planned more after it was over.

Yeah, pretty much. I can see them putting a short break between the two and filling that gap with more standalone movies, instead of jumping straight into Episode X. But I guess that all depends on the stories they have in mind.
