Purr-fect Rescue

Perhaps it was a dodgy cat-alytic converter, but there was a strange sound coming from this car and it didn't sound like the engine was purring.

Lucky two-year-old ginger tom Adalwine cheated death by a whisker when he got trapped inside the alloy wheel of a BMW estate in Berlin, Germany.

"He didn't come home at night and his owner spent hours looking for him until he heard a loud miaowing coming from a parked car.

"The cat was stuck fast so we had to get the fire fighters in with their special cutting equipment to open up the wheel," said officer Ulrich Koenig.

"He's very lucky the car owner didn't just drive off. That's one life down and eight to go," they added.

My ex posted this on Facebook the other night... I know they're not used to snow in the Atlanta area, but this constitutes epic fail, I think:

Dalton Police responded to a burglary call shortly before 4 a.m. Monday at Cox’s Liquor Store at 1301 E. Walnut Ave. just as the snow was beginning to pile up.

Officers found glass had been broken out of the store’s front door. It didn’t appear that the cash register had been disturbed, but a display with liquor bottles was knocked over. Officers also found footprints in the snow leading to the back of the store and then off into a gap in the tree line behind the store.

The footprints led to the Murray Avenue Apartments. Officers followed the footprints to the front door of one of the apartments and knocked on the door. Officers found Dalton resident Sebastian Love with a backpack containing five bottles of liquor that matched bottles missing from Cox’s Liquor.

Hah, I've got a good one. This happened many years ago, and I had even sent it in to America's Dumbest Criminals at one time.

My Aunt's boyfriend had his laptop stolen one year, and they had curiously also stolen some expensive wine. It was a rather new laptop, and so he called the store he bought it from to let them know what happened and to keep an eye out.

Now, imagine a criminal looking to make a bit of cash on what they had stolen. The criminal called up that same store and made claim on his victory, and said he'd like it to sell it to them, and even offered to bring the wine to celebrate. The guy at the store feigned enthusiasm and said, "Sure, come on over!"

The guy at the store called the boyfriend back and told him what had happened, and asked if he had also lost some wine. Boyfriend asked, how did you know? . Little did the burglar know police officers were waiting there to arrest him. This happened in Ottawa.

I can't find a link for this, so feel free to not believe me. I almost don't believe it myself.

About ten years ago, a Taco Cabana was robbed at gunpoint. The employee on the register thought it was a joke because she recognized the gunman a) through his mask, b) because he was wearing his Taco Cabana uniform, and c) because he was also wearing his name tag. He emptied the cash register, and left. Police arrested him about an hour later... when he showed up for work while they were taking statements. "I was setup!"

This made the Texas Monthly Bum Steer Awards that year.

Las Vegas tourist seeks refund after sex act

A tourist says he was traumatized when Las Vegas police threatened to arrest him after he complained about an act of prostitution in his hotel room.
Hubert Blackman of New York City filed a lawsuit this month against a Las Vegas company he identified as Las Vegas Exclusive Personals. The lawsuit says the business operates on Paradise Road.
Blackman, a college student, said in an interview Thursday that he was on vacation and staying at the Stratosphere on Dec. 17 when he called Las Vegas Exclusive Personals to arrange for a stripper to come to his room and dance for him.
Blackman said the woman, who appeared to be in her mid 20s, stripped and performed a lap dance for $155 and a sex act for another $120.
He said that the next morning, he called Las Vegas Exclusive Personals to demand his money back, saying he was dissatisfied because the entertainer didn't stay for the promised one hour and left after a half hour.
Blackman said he also told the company he was incapable of making an informed agreement with the stripper because he was drunk at the time.
Dissatisfied when Las Vegas Exclusive Personals didn't arrange for a refund, Blackman said he contacted Metro Police and was told he faced arrest for such conduct and was advised to contact the Better Business Bureau.
Instead, after returning home he filed suit in federal court in New York, charging "An escort did an illegal sexual act on me during her paid service to me'' and "I almost had gotten arrested."
Blackman said he now needs medical treatment for a mental condition related to the incident.
In the suit, which he filed without an attorney, Blackman said: "I would like the court to close the business. I also would like to get my $275 payment back and a $1.8 million verdict for the tragic event that happened."
In the interview Thursday, Blackman said it was the dancer who solicited the sex act -- but he acknowledged he was aware at the time that prostitution was illegal in Las Vegas.
The number listed in Blackman's lawsuit is used by Hillsboro Enterprises, which says it's been licensed for 17 years and provides adult dancers on a subcontractor outcall basis.
Officials at Hillsboro said Thursday they were unaware of the lawsuit or of Blackman's claims, but denied the company is involved in prostitution. They said if anyone calls looking to hire a dancer and indicates they're looking for sex, they're told prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas and all of Clark County.
There's no possible way he can win this right? What a waste of time and of the court system.

Also, $300 is a lot to pay for sex. :shifty:

^what kind of college student can't find sex for free anyway? yeesh. kids today.

Maybe it was Ottawa, IL.

Good point. Yeah, I really gotta work on my geography skills... Either way, nothing past France going west makes any sense at all

About a decade ago a man broke into the liquor store across from my complex in Tempe, AZ, robbing the register and safe. He smashed a large window to get in. The police arrested him about 2 hours later. He'd used a bowling ball to smash the window and left it behind. It was engraved with his name...

I have another one. This one came via courtesy of a friend of mine, who's sister was working in tech support at a call center for a NY cable company.

A woman is waiting for a cable technician to come to her house so that they can install cable.

She calls, and this is how the conversation went approximately.

Techsupport: Hello, Techsupport, how may I help you?

Client: Hi, I saw one of your vans parked outside and I've been waiting for my cable to be installed. He got out but he never came to the house. Instead, he got back in and drove away.

TS: Umm Maam, the technician reported hearing gunshots coming from your house.

Client: Oh, that was just my husband doing target practice in the basement!

A sly fox in Belarus got the best of the hunter who was about to finish him off, by shooting the man with his own rifle.

Reuters reported that an unnamed hunter shot and wounded a fox in the farming region of Belarus. When he walked closer to the fox with the intention of killing it with the butt of his rifle, the animal began to wrestle with him.

As the two struggled, the fox managed to move its paw near the trigger of the gun and shoot the hunter in the leg.

A prosecutor from the Grodno region said, “The animal fiercely resisted and in the struggle accidentally pulled the trigger with its paw.”

The hunter is in the hospital with a leg wound and thankfully the fox escaped the scene.

Hunting foxes, wolves and raccoon dogs is popular in Grodno, a region of Belarus which borders Poland and Lithuania.

This is not the first time an animal has pulled the trigger on a human, but shootings occur more frequently by the owner’s pet. Here are some recent examples:

  • January 20, 2011, a New Zealand man is recovering from surgery after being shot in the buttock by his dog. The dog’s owner was part of a group that had just hunted down a pig. When the dog jumped into his owner’s truck to go home, a rifle sitting on the seat was discharged.

  • In 2010, a California man was shot in the back by his Labrador retriever while they were duck hunting. The dog stepped on the loaded shotgun.

  • In 2005, a man was shot by his cats while he was cooking in his kitchen. The cats knocked a loaded handgun onto the floor.
