Enterprise theme song

“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.”

I'm sure there are plenty of people who looked like Charles Napier that were hippies. But, imo, a casting director shouldn't say "Well, it's possible that a person who looks and sounds like this could exist." There job is to cast actors who fit roles.

I think that if I had never met Charles Napier before, and I had a chance to see him and hear him, I'm pretty sure that "hippie" wouldn't be the first thing that would spring to mind. And in episodic televsion where you have a guest star pop in for 50 minutes only to never be heard of again, you only have that first impression. You can't spend multiple episodes fleshing out the character, letting the audience get to know him. So you say "Does this guy look the part? Does this guy sound right for the part?" and you roll with it.

He went on to have a 40 year career playing rednecks and hardass tough guys, with nary a space hippie role again.
I first saw him as a space hippy. So him playing cops and rednecks are what seems odd to me.

I'm sure casting directors in 1968 had a different view of "hippies" than people today. They probably saw the real deal in the Hollywood of the late sixties.

Now, I've recently started rewaatching TOS, and I find that theme "song" cringeworthy. I never liked it - not even in the 70s, when there was no other Trek to compare to.

I know, it's probably sacrilegious to have that opinion..:p

I liked it until the end credits of STID, when Giacchino hammered it into the ground.

How about the Star Blazers theme?

Oh no, it's not sacrilegious at all, I can't stand that one either. The vocalizing....dear god the vocalizing....make it stop... :ack:

I do not mind the theme song:cool:
I just very much dislike the season three and four version of it..sounds like a bad country mix and does not really fit with some of the darker themes of those seasons.

As a general rule, any song that involves bongos and a Theremin can only be so good.

The opening music from "In a Mirror, Darkly" should have been the main theme from the get-go.

It feels like sixties instrumental lounge music.... which happens to be one of my favourite types of music.

So yes, I like the TOS theme. It's inextricably linked to the show.

We call it ... exotica! :D

[N.B. Not a joke, that's what it's called; look it up.]

I respect that you like theme! :). The instrumental theme is okay to me...it's the addition of the vocals (if you can call it that? It sounds like shrieking to me...) that just grate on my nerves.

It is so much better than TOS. Beyond the rim of starlight.......Puhlease can u get any more lame.

You do realize the lyrics were never actually used, nor intended to ever be used, on the series, right?

The themesong for -ENTERPRISE- isn't brilliant, by any means, but it suffices. I mean, it's not a song I'd ever listen to on its own ... why would you? But ... for a TV show, it's on par and very comfortable with pretty much everything else that's out there.

They should've had Brent Spiner singing the theme for -ENTERPRISE- and I think it would've ended up becoming much more celebrated, in the end.

ST:ENT was and continues to be my favorite of the series, although I know I'm in the minority opinion with respect to the membership of trekbbs (present company excluded I'm sure). I've given some thought as to why this series is so special to me and have decided it's at least partly because of the time it was produced. I had just purchased my first house and moved in with my wife of 9 years (at the time). In a nearly empty living room with only a TV and a card table (we were waiting for furniture to arrive) we watched Broken Bow. The theme song spoke to us and we identified with it. My wife was never a Star Trek fan, but to this day she loves that song - as do I, and maybe for all these reasons and more I love ST:ENT.
