ENTERPRISE Faux Buttons -- What Are They?

In several eBay auction listings, you can find a variety of supposedly screen-used set props from Star Trek: Enterprise. Here is an example. (I am NOT the seller.)

Obviously the buttons are fake, but what were they made from?

They are plastic "bumpons," adhesive feet for appliances and furniture. I used to know the 3M part numbers...some Googling should probably turn them up.

We used slightly larger, transparent silicon bumpons for light-up buttons on Polaris. They're wonderful, because it takes only a couple of seconds to place one on a control panel - no glue required.

Watch eBay for stuff like this - we bought a couple thousand for forty dollars, providing instrumentation for an entire starship.

In fact, if you go to eBay right now and type "3m bumpon" into the search box you'll find a number of reasonable auctions for them.

It's not only fun but really budget practical when you don't have to make your set look exactly like or fit into the established design scheme of a known series.

Using Enterprise console buttons to adorn costumes has a proud tradition on Star Trek. One example that comes immediately to mind is Bill Theiss's costume for Zephram Cochrane from "Metamorphosis." Glenn Corbett has the clear plastic "ice cube" console buttons on his cuffs and down at his waistline.

Wow, Dennis... This was extremely helpful. For some reason I thought those stick ons from ENT were just squares cut at random from a larger foam sheet similar to neoprene.
