Hope this is a good idea. This contest will be those classic or legendary characters and stories from we keep re-making movies or tv shows. This is includes:

Classic Novels
Mythology
Religion
Tall Tales
Fairy Tales
Shakespeare
people whose actions cement them as legends

Fantasy is ok, but NO SciFi or Comicbook characters.

My entry is the Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, from the Chinese novel The Journey West. Growing up, I saw a bunch of adaptations of this guy. It even inspired the original DragonBall anime. Here's him played by Jet Li in the Forbidden Kingdom.
