I'm thinking of buying an elliptical bike such as an ElliptiGo but ideally I'd like a bike where I can use my arms as well as my legs more fully in the same manner as a cross trainer. Is there any such machine available? Also what do people think of elliptical bikes, which are 30% less efficient than ordinary bikes -- of course, that means you burn more calories. I assume the difference is due to the standing posture, increased wind resistance, and more linkages in the power train. Any other thoughts about these machines? I understand that Mary Decker-Slaney promotes them because of her injury and arthritis issues. I don't have the same issues but I've never been very keen on the usual cycling posture. I suppose recumbent bikes are another option but you lose visibility to other road users, which is is a safety concern.
