Eleventh Doctor audios delayed

On April 8 the first Eleventh Doctor audio drama from BBC Audio, The Hounds of Artemis, was scheduled for release. This is the one being read by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan and which featured a cover photo no one seemed to like.

Both Amazon and Book Depository now have it listed for UK release on June 3.

An even longer wait for those waiting for the second Eleventh Doctor audio, The Runaway Train. According to the Doctor Who News Page merchandise schedule, and again Amazon, that's been pushed back from June 3 to sometime in February 2011!

Not sure where this leaves the third, yet to be scheduled audio, Ring of Steel.

A bit of a bummer for those who enjoy the audios. Maybe they're clearing the decks for another Tom Baker miniseries?

I wonder if there's some kind of continuity conflict with the episodes they did, and the BBC requested they hold off...

I'm not sure there's any sinister agenda here. Things get pushed back sometimes. They probably don't want to conflict with the novels and gamebooks coming out in April.

Anyway, there are two audiobooks scheduled for August at the moment, the aforementioned Ring of Steel, and another called The Phantom Planet. Not sure about The Runaway Train yet, BBC Shop still have it listed for 3rd June alongside Hounds of Artemis.

^ Cool news about Demon Quest! That's the first I've heard of it.

That's probably one of the reasons Big Finish had to tread lightly when news broke a few weeks ago that Baker was interested in doing work for them. After posting my last, I looked things up and it appears they're looking at a 2011 release for the next Bakers, though.

As for the Smith audios, I felt April 8 was a bit quick after the debut for the first one to come out anyway. Obviously they pushed it back to Runaway Train's original release date. I agree there's no sinister agenda. For all we know with regards to RW Train it may be a case that with all the promotional tours going on they simply weren't able to get Smith and/or Gillan into the recording studio in time to meet the deadline and with work set to begin fairly soon on Season 6, it's conceivable the two simply weren't available until later in the year. Or maybe someone clicked the wrong thing and deleted the MP3s!

The funny thing is, because of Matt and Karen's involvement, I may be just as excited for THIS as I am for any of their live-action stories! The two are so much fun together, that I can't imagine that chemistry won't translate just as well to audio.

It'll be like a nice little bonus episode. :D

We may have a reason for the Runaway Train delay. According to the Doctor Who News Page, quoting the writer of the story, apparently the Telegraph newspaper is supposed to be giving it away with an upcoming edition of the newspaper:

In the UK, over the last few years most newspapers have gotten into this idea of giving away free CDs and DVDs, obviously to entice readers. Why North American newspapers haven't gotten the idea, I'll never know. Sadly, these bonuses tend to get stripped way when the newspapers are imported to North America...

Yay! New audiobook for a quid! Well, I'll be getting that - even if it means buying a tory paper on that one occasion!
