She had a semi recurring role on Law & Order back in the day, as defense attorney Lanie Stieglitz.

Stritch isn't even in that scene and yet knowing her and that character immediately informs the scene, Baldwin and Krakowski's performance, and the hilarity it engendered. It's also brilliant advice for dealing with anyone who drives you crazy.

    Rest in peace.

Looks like she won an Emmy for that roll.

    Rest in peace.

A great lady of the American Theater. Cheers to Elaine.

I only knew her from 30 Rock, but she was an absolute treasure. A perfect foil for Jack.

"Let's all meet down at the soda shop while this country turns into Mexico!!"

When Jack ran over her with his car: "Exhibit C! 16 minus 8 is 8! Numbers, unlike children, don't lie!"

Another favorite: "Welcome to my Christmas Attack Zone!"

And lastly, another great scene that she wasn't even in:

Jonathan: “Sir, your mother had me move her from the Plaza to the Carlisle. Evidently, the concierge (reading a message) ‘has a beard and she’d rather not get raped.’”

I'm sure Colleen's mother, Unnamed Irish Stowaway, was a real hoot too!

She was a real joy to watch.

    RIP

She also was the first Trixie Norton on The Honeymooners before Jane Randolph settled into the part.

I watched this all the way through and was amazed at her life, her insight and the breadth of her experience.

I was also amazed that a 77 year old woman was on stage for over 2 hours in just a shirt and black tights. :bolian:

Multitalented, sassy, bawdy, witty -- this woman was show business incarnate. May she rest in peace.

There are some icons you irrationally believe will live forever. RIP to a great lady of the theater. Eh, and to a great, fearless broad. I was lucky enough to see her on stage and she defined "star power." Just mesmerizing. And wonderful. (We should all have amazing gams like that when we're pushing 90.)

Terrific and very funny interview for Theater Talk. Best parts are Stritch quoting Barrymore and telling a laugh out loud story on herself:
