El Aurians

Thanks.
I find that pretty cool.
There wasn't even many hints in "Rivals" that Martus was from Guinan's Race, apart from him being from a race of "listeners".
I bet quite some people din't put the pieces of the "puzzle" together until they saw "Generations".

Taking advantage of Star Trek canon, even developing it further without making a big fuzz about it trying to boost ratings- DS9 was awesome.
In other shows the guy would have been Guinan's brother or something.

I have a question. Before "Rivals" aired, did we even know Guinan's race was called "El Aurians"?

No. When Guinan was introduced into Season Two of TNG, it was said she was simply "a Listener".

When the Writers' Bible was being written for DS9 Season One, it was suggested that one of Guinan's many sons might visit the space station in an episode, or perhaps already be imprisoned there.

So Martus was conceived for a DS9 script as an offspring of Guinan, but quickly became a gifted alien/criminal called an El Aurian. (The reference to Guinan herself may have even happened after they cast a white actor as Martus?)

When "Generations" was being promoted, there was an electronic press kit distributed. Here in Australia, there was also a contest on TV where they flashed up character biographies from the electronic presskit (on LCARS screens), in quick succession. Viewers were encouraged to videotape the commercial and then replay it at slow speed... to "gather the clues" that would win them prize packs of "Generations" licensed tie-ins.

I was shocked to see that Guinan's species was listed in the onscreen bio as... El Aurian! And I suddenly realised: aur- equals hearing/listening. When the film came out it was confirmed canonically.

Yeah the guy in DS9 was going to be a recurring character and Guinan's son but Whoopi Goldberg wasn't available for the episode

Anyone remember the epsiode where Data goes back in time to something like the 17th century or something and Guinan is there? well i'm pretty sure its mentioned there that Guinan is an El Aurian. Not 100% sure though. ;)
