Edward James Olmos as............Kruge?

Ar-Pharazon

Admiral
Admiral
It might have happened if Leonard Nimoy has his way.

Story

After seeing him in Blade Runner, Nimoy was convinced Edward James Olmos was the right man for that critical part. To Nimoy's disappointment, fellow producer Harve Bennett was lukewarm on Olmos, feeling he lacked the physicality to appropriately portray the Klingon warrior. After several rounds of auditions, Bennett ultimately won out and Olmos was passed over in favor of Christopher Lloyd.

Of course, Christopher Lloyd was excellent as Kruge, surprisingly so as most of us only knew him as Reverend Jim from Taxi at that point.

But EJO.....did he have the same steely gravitas back then as he did later as Adama? It's been decades since I watched Blade Runner, so really can't remember much. The guy that played Adama would absolutely have been a great Klingon.

I just re-watched Blade Runner a few months ago. I think he would've given a more intense but less colorful performance. I don't think Edward James Olmos' performance would've fit the more operatic style of TSFS, complete with a James Horner soundtrack.

But I do think he would've made a great Klingon in general. Just not in that story. Maybe it's because I'm thinking too much of Adama, but I don't think an Olmos-Kruge would've gone off-book the way Lloyd-Kruge did.

Back then - in the 1980's - my first thought was that one of Kruge's lines would have been:

"Ahhh, Admiral Kirk! If you won't give me the Genesis device...ahhhhh...okeydoke!"

If Mr. Olmos was cast the results would be the same. A ridiculous villain who was well deserved in getting his face kicked in.

Olmos might have been a better klingon captian, at least to the point of not uncloaking their ship right in front of what they thought was a fedeation starship captained by the legendary Kirk and crew and all his ships forward firing weapons. lol

The actor is not changing the script, silly.
