Ed Harris as a Starfleet Captain

How many people think that Ed Harris has a commanding presence as an actor? I definitely think so, his most notable examples being the sniper Major Koenig in Enemy at the Gates and as General Francis X. Hummel, USMC, in The Rock.

I think he'd make an excellent Starfleet Captain in any of the generations, especially in the Domnion War arc.

Recalling my former thread where I wondered how Lena Heady would be as a Starfleet Captain, I would say she'd be an excellent first officer under Ed Harris.

Any opinions?

if they ever did a TREK movie staring Captain Bob Maxwell? Harris would be my first pick indeed!!

Picard wasn't a young fellow either, and tell me that made him a bad captain.
I think Harris would potrait a very good one indeed, sure he has the right presence, and frankly I like him as an actor in general, so I'd love to see him in uniform

I think Ed Harris would be fantastic in just about anything, but I could see him as a starship captain.

Well, since he did play the real life astronaut John Glenn in the film "The Right Stuff" it seems logical for him to play a Starfleet Commander or Captain or Admiral.

To me Ed Harris does not play his age as well as Patrick. He comes across as more of a renegade while Patrick comes across as steady and mature. He might have made a great Kirk type captain but I cannot see him playing the role of Pickard. (JMO)

I don't see anyone except Stewart as Picard, as a matter of fact.
But I see Harris as a good Starfleet captain in general, he has the right attitude and presence. I agree he would probably fit very well a bit of out of the line one, but I wasn't thinking about putting him into neither Kirk or Picard's shoes

I agree with you to a point. Bear in mind he did play B.Gen. Francis X. Hummel, USMC, a Force Recon Marine general who had enough of the Pentagon screwing his guys over and so took drastic and terrorist-like actions to force awareness of how his troops were screwed.

Interestingly enough, I could see him with Lena Heady playing his first officer. I know they've never worked together, but that would be an interesting dynamic. Heady would be more a stabilizing, steady figure to Harris' bit out of line Starfleet Captain methinks. Any thoughts?

Ed Harris would be just as large on screen as all other Captains, because he has that inner strength and inner peace all Star Trek captains seem to have. I believe he would be a great choice, given the chance
