Being able to see what's going on around you....yeah, I totally get that.
Dying Light, like the Dead Island games before it, is a first person slashooter. Guns are good when you get them in that they don't break down like melee weapons, but, they are noisy, and can draw zombies in if you are in a place that is accessible to your average shambler.
RoJoHen, I think a game you might find a bit more to your liking is an Xbox 360 Arcade title called "State of Decay". It is done in third person. It is open world, like Dying Light. It has shooting, slashing, exploration, and driving....but it is so much more, as well. It has elements where you must actually look out for the well being of your fellow survivors, maintain your home bases, scavenge....there's so much involved that it is quite literally a Zombie Apocalype Simulator....or as I call it : a Zombapocalypsulator! It's pretty deep for a 20 dollar download title (it might even be less now) and I believe it has two add on campaigns. I really enjoyed it.
Oh, and if your character dies, your character is DEAD...as in, you have to have another survivor take over and you play him/ her. If you have a favorite character, and he/she dies, the only way you can play him/her again is to start completely over.
