Dying Light

RoJoHen

Awesome

Just picked this up. I read some pretty good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a go. At this point I'm just killing time until Arkham Knight comes out.

Anybody play this one yet?

It's a pretty cool game. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating, and ends up feeling like nothing more than "Dead Island" repackaged, but overall, I'm enjoying it. I've already beaten the campaign, so now, I'm just running around looking for side quests. :)

Finally started playing it this morning after buying it on Tuesday. It's okay. I've only played it for a little over an hour, and it's a little slow getting started.

I'm usually not a fan of first-person shooters, but if they're fun enough I can usually look past the control dynamics. I just have a much more comfortable time playing games with a 3rd-person setup.

Being able to see what's going on around you....yeah, I totally get that.

Dying Light, like the Dead Island games before it, is a first person slashooter. Guns are good when you get them in that they don't break down like melee weapons, but, they are noisy, and can draw zombies in if you are in a place that is accessible to your average shambler.

RoJoHen, I think a game you might find a bit more to your liking is an Xbox 360 Arcade title called "State of Decay". It is done in third person. It is open world, like Dying Light. It has shooting, slashing, exploration, and driving....but it is so much more, as well. It has elements where you must actually look out for the well being of your fellow survivors, maintain your home bases, scavenge....there's so much involved that it is quite literally a Zombie Apocalype Simulator....or as I call it : a Zombapocalypsulator! It's pretty deep for a 20 dollar download title (it might even be less now) and I believe it has two add on campaigns. I really enjoyed it.

Oh, and if your character dies, your character is DEAD...as in, you have to have another survivor take over and you play him/ her. If you have a favorite character, and he/she dies, the only way you can play him/her again is to start completely over. :)

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe this game is just weird, but I feel like my weapons "become ineffective" way too fast. Like, I have a steal pipe that I'm beating a guy with, and after about 4 or 5 hits, suddenly it's ineffective and needs to be repaired. It's a fucking pipe! What are these enemies made of that they are breaking a pipe?!

Eventually, you will come upon more powerful and robust weapons. Also, when you build up survivor, power, and agility points, one of the skill unlocks is to be able to use weapons with greater efficiency, increasing their durability. Also, you will find modification pieces along the way that will further extend their durability, damage, and handling....and I think it also adds the number of repairs available for modifying weapons. Choose wisely though. Once a mod has been placed in a slot on a weapon and confirmed, that slot cannot be changed.

Another technique is rotate through your handily available weapons in the selection dial...save the heavy weapons for the heavier enemies.

Yeah, I'll figure it out. I really haven't had the opportunity to devote much time to this game, so the whole experience has been fairly half assed so far.

Yeah, the game is really enjoyable when you can just escape from the real world for a day or two...just remember to eat. :)

I had fun until the final mission. I got sick of falling all the time and all that "parkour" stuff I had to do to reach Rais so I sold it.

What?! You gave up?! Nooooooooo!!!! The world is counting on you, maaaaan!

Did Rocky Balboa give up?! No!
Did Captain Picard give up?! (ok....bad example)
Did The Terminator give up?! (somehow, I think I just went from bad to worse with that example)

You can't just give up on the world and sell the game, maaaaan! That's like.....like....selling .... Like.... Selling.....
