DWIN: Resurrection of the Daleks novelisation coming?

An eagle-eyed writer for the Canadian Doctor Who Information Network is reporting that Amazon UK is listing a pre-order for an audio recording of Resurrection of the Daleks by Steve Lyons.

Resurrection, originally by Eric Saward, was one of the five stories never novelised by Target Books (though Virgin nearly did one in the 90s).

It sounds like this is going to be another audio-exclusive novelisation along the lines of David Fisher's version of Stones of Blood earlier this year.

According to DWIN - and I have to agree because this is the first I've heard of it - this bit of news has flown under the radar apparently for a couple weeks. Of course, just because Amazon lists something for pre-order that doesn't mean it'll actually be released. But still, there's an author attached to this, so who knows? Take it for what it's worth and, as the blog writer says, cross your fingers that maybe this might indicate the others will be adapted; even if only as audio this - along with next year's Shada - will give some of us a chance to at least get a full collection of classic era stories. (Unless a miracle cache of missing episodes is discovered, novelisations and the soundtracks are the only way we'll ever be able to do that.)

It was first mentioned on the 15th of Nov in the relevant thread on Gally.

We think if its not an error completely its probably by Eric Saward; the Steve Lyons credit appears to have come from another audio being released at the same time.

Maybe, maybe not: Saward did start writing the novelisation in the early 1990s, but abandoned it and Virgin then passed his work so far on to Gareth Roberts to complete, before abandoning it altogether (as the New Adventures were selling well enough for them not to see the need for another novelisation). So maybe Saward's gone back for another try, but it could be that BBC audio have just got his permission to let Steve have a go.

I wonder if we'll eventually get one for Revelation as well.

Ressurection, like a lot of Davison's last season, is one of the darker and more violent WHOs. It also kind of started the whole Dalek civil war storyline that would carry on into Revelation and Rememberance of the Daleks, where Davros engineers a Dalek race loyal to him, correcting his mistake at the end of Genesis.

I've always felt that this one also had a certain Star Wars feel to it-the Dalek's attack and boarding of the Davros prison is very reminiscent of the opening of Star Wars, and the "Dalek troopers" helmets and armor also bear a resemblance to the big-helmeted Death Star troopers.
