    Hi all,

I know it's not gonna hold any weight, but I wondered if anyone knows of a customer enquiries email address to, presumably, Paramount?

I was hoping to express my request that a few others have expressed too - that the original, raw, unedited b/w film print of The Cage be released, with no expectation of any restoration or additional features.

(Also, it occurred to me the other day, that those deleted lines that never made it to The Menagerie, or The Cage's later reconstruction, are technically deleted material, and should have made it onto the Vault Blu-Ray. One spoken by Vina, the other by Pike.)

The b&w print was just Gene Roddenberry's personal copy, as I'm sure you know. It got significant wear and tear from convention showings and so forth, and the sound isn't as good. Wasn't it a 16mm print?

I would think it has virtually the same content as the 1986 color-and-b&w hybrid edition, and the all-color version that was released after the missing color scenes were found. Is there something you want in the "true original" sound mix? I thought the deleted lines were pretty minor, just a few words.

I agree it should have been in the Vault release, but I skipped that. The whole b&w version by itself would be a "niche" product that I suspect very few fans would buy, and many would gripe online about Paramount milking this thing with unnecessary editions.

Yes, I wouldn't mind the original, true sound mix, which we don't have. Also, I believe there were some 'pauses' at a few places, whereas these were truncated during The Menagerie. These pauses means a few fractions of visuals we don't have either.

Slightly off-topic - and when I request this, some fans will undoubtedly bring burning torches and pitchforks.

When the Original Series was remastered, all the new FX were done in widescreen and then cropped to 4:3 to fit in. Some TV channels show a widescreen version, which yes, means they've cropped the live action image. Nevertheless I wouldn't mind CBS putting out a physical release for this alternative way of viewing TOS. I have the old DVDs and so the original effects and original aspect ratio is preserved in my collection. But some networks obviously requested 16:9 and CBS obliged with slightly more at the sides of the screen to appreciate, from the new digital remastering team.

I posted a while back about discovering that a Brazilian/Portuguese VHS appears to have released the entire black and white 16mm version of The Cage.

Someone should take Malachi Throne's original voice of the Keeper from this video and match it with the color footage.

Be careful of getting in touch with Paramount if you're in the UK (and it might be the same anywhere) I had a few of my TNG and DS9 discs crack in the early days of their release and they very happily replaced them for me. In fact they bent over backwards to help me! Years later when The Invaders was released on DVD here, there was a fault on the discs with subtitles coming up on a few of the discs and they couldn't have been more rude and ignorant over the problem!

The Warlord, may I ask where you bought it? It should be a PAL VHS.

I bought from the above link. I researched on another VHS-specialist forum, and apparently the tape is Brazilian, which is PAL-M (UK is PAL-G). It is compatible with NTSC players though, and most 90's UK players were NTSC-compatible, so I've been told it should play in the UK.

I see. I have two VCRs multistandard perfectly working, they are both capable to play PAL-M and convert it. So if it won't work on your player, I'll be happy to help. I live in Rome, Italy.
