Dungeons And Dragons Online?

I have been doing free trials of WoW and as I wait for this new set of patches to download I was looking into something else I can do for free and found out about DDO...what I am wondering is...is this worth the download and is it fun to play?

I know it is free to play now and you can buy stuff as you go...but is it worth it?

Thanks! :bolian:

Not really.

If you really want to play something good that's free, try out Lord of the Rings Online. It's a very complete game and it feels a lot more polished than D&D.

It's bloody awful.

It basically takes everything that's great about D&D and throws it out an airlock. And it's really, really repetitive ... even for an MMO. There is a reason it went F2P.

If you're looking for a F2P, PWI, RoM, and Cabal are all better. RoM being my recommendation.

Keep in mind what they say about it being a "WoW clone" is true.

EDIT: And RoM has the biggest population of any F2P by far ... If that means anything to you.

It's an enjoyable game, if only for the very different combat system. I also love its character customization; it's quite insane. DDO isn't nearly as repetitive as it was at launch, either.

However, I second the recommendation Lord of the Rings Online. It's F2P as of about 3 months ago, and was done by the same company. However, it initially came out about a year after DDO, and the extra experience (and budget) that they had for it is very telling. The character customization isn't there as much, but what is there is more intuitive.

I recently tried it out, and found it to be fairly enjoyable, if somewhat generic. I'm only a few hours in, and I don't know if I'll like it quite enough to actually pay for any of the expanded content, so I may just play through the free stuff and move on.

I tried to play DDO and while my system exceeded the minimum requirements it would always hang right after character creation/selection. It would stall for a few minutes and then say it lost the connection. Did this repeatedly. Never had such an issue with any other MMO.

I am gonna wait till I am done with my WoW free trial before I download anything else...I tried to download DDO a few days back and was having trouble. PWI looks interesting if not a bit cheesy and RoM doesn't look as interesting to me at this point. Maybe through a Christmas miracle I can upgrade WoW from TBC to RoTLK and then to CAT...and get a few months of play too.
