Dukat as Anjohl Tennan

Kilana2

I can't help myself, but Dukat as Anjohl was ridiculous. The whole Pah-Wraith thing was odd. The only thing I liked about the Anjohl story was when Winn realized who Anjohl really was - Dukat as Devil in Disguise. Winn was also the 'better' part of this combo. Would she have resorted to the means of murder (Solbor) even without Anjohl? Maybe.
Dukat should have stayed Cardassian til the bitter end. I guess they needed an ally for Winn.

Thoughts?

Dukat being a true believer in the Pah Wraiths was a bit strange...but he was so narcissistic that he would manipulate whomever he needed to in order to achieve ultimate power.

I liked this storyline. I thought it was interesting to see Dukat become Bajoran, a group of people he hated and had terrorized. If I had had my druthers, he would've been stuck as Anjohl at the end of the series, a blind Bajoran beggar on the streets, and I would have had the final showdown be between Winn and Sisko as the avatars for the Pah Wraiths and Prophets. Winn, with her deep knowledge of Bajoran religion, made more sense to be the destroyer anyway. I thought leaving Dukat alive, but someone forgotten, on some street corner somewhere would've been a nice way to 'end' his character, though leaving the door open for him to return at some point.

Perhaps Dukat became a true believer in the Pah Wraiths because they both shared a mutual hatred of the Bajorans. Also, the idea of godlike beings chosing Dukat, offering him power, or an exalted place in their plans, could've been the kind of lure that would appeal to him. We had seen how much he craved power throughout the course of the series, and the Pah Wraiths were offering him a kind of power even the Dominion hadn't, couldn't, or wouldn't.

It's probably my biggest gripe with season 7. Dukat used to be a great multi-dimensional character: when in control, he displayed his smug arrogance, but his obsession with being regarded (or even just excused) for what he did during the occupation--especially by the Bajorans themselves--revealed a much deeper personality that's haunted by doubt or maybe even guilt. He had moments where you could actually feel for him, he had moments that made you think there's hope for him, but then when pressed he revealed just how psychopathic he is. Very multi-faceted, with several layers on top of each other, great stuff.

In the end of S7, he was basically just a tool of the Pah-wraiths and his final encounter with Sisko was just "I won, you lost, bwa ha ha" and that was pretty much it. As if that was all he ever cared about. This character deserved some much better resolution in my opinion.

Winn too, I mean she was pretty evil most of the time, but occasionally she was deeper than that too. I actually felt bad for her when she desperately realised she was serving the Pah-wraiths while thinking she was serving the Prophets. But shortly after that, she just goes "screw the Prophets, I sell my soul to Satan now", murders that guy and whatnot. No further attempt to do anything meaningful with that character.

And that final stuff in the fire caves is so off, it's more Lord of the Rings than Star Trek.

Then there's the question about Bajor's future and politics. The matter of Bajor joining the Federation is just dropped without further mention. Bajor politics which had been pretty important in earlier seasons are completely nonexistent. Bajor seems to have only three people, Dukat, Winn, and the guy she murders.

Altogether I found this storyline pretty disappointing. DS9 used to do better than that.

I agree that those are weaknesses and could be better, however it still does not ruin season 7 for me.
