Dukat and Garek...

Was it ever established just why Gul Dukat hated Garek so much, did it have something to do with Garek being in the Order. In any case I think that Garek is the coolest Cardiassian on Trek.

There was never an official explanation. It had something to do with Dukat's father, that's all we know.

My guess is that Dukat's father made himself an enemy of Tain and Garak and Garak dug up some dirt on him to disgrace him.

Interesting. During one time when they were protecting the elected council from the Klingon attack on Deep Space 9 Garek made the statement how interesting it was they were fighting on the same side. Anyway, it will be the books were the story will be told.

While in the Order Garek was sent to investigate Dukat's father, found he was doing naughty things and exposed him. This ended Dukat's father's career and he was arrested. After this Garek attempted to interrogate him and they got into a biff and Garek ended up killing Dukat's father.

Its been a little while since I read ASIT, but I'm not sure Mem. Beta is correct- in the DS9 episode Civil Defense, Garak said his father went to trial. Dukat also said in that episode that his father should never have trusted Garak. And I don't recall ASIT contradicting the series. AR did quite a good job, I wish he'd write a little more.

Dukat said something of how his father's only flaw was trusting Garak. Ziyal later said she knew all about how Garak had her grandfather (obviously she's talking about Dukat's dad) tortured and killed.

Garak then mentioned something to Tain about Dukat's dad in "By Inferno's Light" and Tain remembered, meaning he had something to do with it to. Dukat's dad was a Judge or something.

Yeah, to make matters worse, Dukat's beloved daughter was in love with Garak. Poor Dukat...

Dukat hated the Obsidian Order and Garak's close ties to Tain would have been enough for him to truly despise him. Really, Dukat hated everyone unless he was wooing them in some way (Kira, or so he thought) or unless they were devoted lackeys (Damar).

The Order was deeply loathed by the military, as are all secret service organizations in Trek.
