I figured since the Design the Next Enterprise competition is done with and the thread is more focused on the winning design (very cool), it would be better to make this its own thread. I'm very proud of this design, it's the most intricately made design I've drawn so far (I have a whole folder of others!)

I went with the idea that for every sleek ship in the saucer-engineering-two nacelles design lineage, there is a bulkier one following it. Excelsior is long and sleek, then the Ambassador is big and fat, the Galaxy streamlines that shape, and so on. So for a ship immediately proceeding from the Sovereign, there would be a bigger ship. I also tried to incorporate older design aesthetics into the design, like the impulse engines, the neck and bent nacelle struts. I was satisfied with the way it turned out, but it kind of ended up being rather archaic for the 25th century, really. It's also quite a bit smaller than the Sovereign, judging by the size of the windows.
I drew the design by first making a VERY basic 3D model, and then using the various views from that as a base for the hand-drawings. I left the tape on that held the pictures of the 3D model to the paper I drew the final product on.
If I had skill with 3D modeling past premade shapes and Google Sketchup, I'd try to make a detailed 3D model of this, but as it stands, I'm happy with the result of three days of work!
Also, I'm somewhat of a newbie here, so hi!
