DS9 Opening, BSG-Style

Fraking amazing! The Prophets are "God" (they don't like that name) and Sisko is the Harbinger of Death. :)

Some similarities I noticed between Sisko and Starbuck:

Neither believes they have a "special destiny" even though others say so.
-Sisko: Bajorans say he is the emmisary
-Starbuck: Leoban and hybrids say she is angel of god/harbinger of death

Each was briefly transported to "the other side" before returning to the real world.
-Sisko: Transported to and back from the Prophets realm in "Emissary" and others
Starbuck: Series of blackouts leading up to explosion in "Maelstrom"

Each had a sense/visions that something bad was going to happen and acted on it, thus saving the people.
-Sisko: Bajor shouldn't join Feds due to impending war, got them to listen through yelling, result: Bajor not attacked by Dominion
-Starbuck: fleet going the wrong way, got them to listen through yelling, result: Human/cylon alliance and finding earth.

Neither died a corporeal death but instead disappeared and transcended to a higher plain of existence.
-Sisko: disappeared in last episode to go be with Prophets
-Starbuck: disappeared in last episode to go be with "God", or something

You're damn right. I've often thought about those similarities, and I'm also convinced there's a whole slew of things from DS9 Ron D. Moore (and Thompson, Weddle, etc.) loved about their time with Trek and applied liberally to their dark tale in Battlestar Galactica.

That's a great list though. We're obviously both fans of two extraordinary shows.

Great minds think alike!

Yeah, I didn't even think of the similarities between their "disappearance" at the end until I saw this clip. I was like "Wait...I see what you did there, RDM" Who knows? Maybe the similarities were intentional.

Also, didn't Sisko's mom leave when he was young (just like Starbuck's dad)? So that means:

Both have a parent who gives them a mystical gift and then leaves.
-Sisko: Mom conceives and gives birth to him, the Emissary. (Wasn't she taken over by a Prophet and forced to marry Sisko's dad to make sure that the Emissary is conceived?) After her task is complete Mom gets her free will back and heads off cause she never liked dad in the first place.
-Starbuck: Dad teaches her how to play mystical earth coordinate song on piano. After task is done he leaves cause he likes playing piano more than mom and daughter.

All true. Plus there's the little things. This one is clearly a tad ridiculous to mention, but amusing... in "Image in the Sand", Sisko's playing the piano. I'm not sure I can look at that the same way again, considering the huge relevance in that episode to his overall stand in the grand scheme of things... and his Starbuck-like qualities.

I wish that BSG had been thought out like that, but I think it went more like this...

Break meeting for Maelstrom
RDM: I think we should kill Starbuck, that would be shocking.
WRITERS: Cool.

Break meeting for Crossroads
RDM: I think we should bring Starbuck back, it would be shocking.
WRITERS: Cool.

Break meeting for Someone to Watch Over Me
RDM: I think we should bring Starbuck's dad back as a ghost and have her play All Along the Watchtower on a piano, it would be shocking.
WRITERS: Cool.

Break meeting for Daybreak
RDM: Shit, how do I explain all this crap?
WRITERS: Dunno.
RDM: Let's just have her disappear without a proper explanation, it would be shocking.
WRITERS: Cool.

Much as I enjoyed BSG, I have to say this sounds tragically plausible. Especially that last one, which was the biggest cop out in the history of cop outs.

holy crap, that is a good opening for ds9. cool mix of the two. wish i had vid editing skills.

Maybe it's meant to imply that in the picture she's watching the video? :D They used a lot of clips from parts of DS9 I didn't like (Sisko in "Far Beyond the Stars", Pah Wraith stuff, etc.), but I loved that montage. I would have enjoyed it more if it had more clips I liked, but it was a blast nonetheless.

Too Much Fun, I've always meant to ask you. Why is it in your sig Jadzia says something, then it looks like you're going to have Sisko reply but there's just a blank space?

I'm only guessing, but maybe because Sisko's answer is Too Much Fun's login name :)
So the siggie is an explanation of the nick ;)
