This is probably a completely pointless poll, but...

How much would you be willing to contribute towards DS9 getting an HD upgrade? Obviously your decision would be partly based on what "perks" you get for your cash, but to keep things simple let's just assume you get a copy of the complete series (or 7 season sets) either on Blu Ray or permanent download or via isolinear data rod or storage solution of your choice... This would also include new special features a la TNG HD.

Select the maximum you would be prepared to contribute

I think it would depend on how long the fundraising campaign lasted. I voted $300, reasoning that it's probably what I paid for the TNG Full Journey and two-parter blu rays. But I might donate less. I might donate more if it's not limited to a 30 day campaign. If I go by how much the full season TNG sets cost at full price, maybe I could go as high as $500 or $600, if I could divide that up in monthly increments.

One thing I do know though, is that unlike with TNG, TOS, their movies, and ENT, I won't wait until the complete series is released before buying it. If I don't get a free copy from a crowdfunding campaign, I plan to buy each season at full price the week it comes out to support the effort. That even goes for a sampler disc, which I skipped for TNG because it looked like the full project was a go from the beginning.

$200.

And that's if I got all seven seasons on Blu-ray. It just isn't anymore of a priority to me than that.

So, maybe $30 a season.

I went with an aggregated amount of $300, assuming an MSRP of $40 per season. Obviously, the season boxsets would be priced about twice that, but that's the maximum my wallet could handle at the moment. If it meant getting a copy of the boxset as the gift for my contribution, I could be persuaded to up my amount.

Why would I pay an organization to sell me a product I've already bought from them twice?

^That. And also, the same reason people buy a new car/phone/jacket/etc before the old one is worn out.

You've bought a release of DS9 remastered and re-edited from the original negatives twice?

I've bought DS9 twice on VHS and DVD. And being the consumer whore I am probbly would buy it again in an HD format but I would feel exploited doing it.

^That. And also, the same reason people buy a new car/phone/jacket/etc before the old one is worn out.

Those items are necessities though, it's more like buying more coffee, alcohol, cigarettes or whatever substance you're dependent on before you run out.

Oh how I envy you, I didn't own a phone for the first twenty years of my life, that product only became a necessity to me when I had to get a job, I didn't own a car for thirty years either that product only became a necessity to me when I had a child.

I'm surprised and disappointed by the number of people who wouldn't pay any more, if even as much, as they paid for the DVD releases. I guess CBS called it right.

What do you mean by that? CBS hasn't said anything yet.

And as far as crowdfunding, I remember back in 2005 when Enterprise was cancelled, a number of fans raised enough money to produce a 5th season, and had presented it to Paramount, but Paramount's legal team determined that it would be in conflict with a number of laws for Paramount to accept and use the money, so in the end the money went to charity. Perhaps that is why CBS has not started a crowdfunding initiative.

A little over $3 million was raised by Save Enterprise - most of it from one generous super-fan, allegedly in the Aerospace industry. Alas, not even enough to make a TV movie... which all I was realistically expecting back in February/March 2005. Leave the sets standing, long enough for Manny Coto or anybody to give us a better ending than "These are the Voyages..." . Funnily enough the Axanar video pitch had the right idea with its dramatized History Channel programme approach, but just the wrong era for me. Cover the Romulan War and Birth of the Federation with assorted clips from episodes that didn't happen and get former Enterprise cast members as talking heads in a fictional documentary.

I bought the seasons for TNG and ENT all individually, as and when they came out on Blu-ray. Although I admit I shopped around online and always went for the cheapest pre-order. So between £20 and 30 pounds a pop. I'd be willing to do exactly the same for DS9 and VOY. But I appreciate I'm probably very much in the minority with that.

I haven't contributed to the DS9 doc crowdfunding, as I don't really do that sort of thing anymore. I'll pay for a copy as and when it's completed... but really it ought to be part of a CBS supported effort to remaster the show.

$200 for the series to be made available via download or a streaming service. Bare bones only -- provided there are subtitles New documentaries might be a good idea to entice new viewers I guess. And, yes, DS9 in HD could be considered a luxury but it also has a cultural legacy. The film stock and other assets have a limited lifespan before they degrade to an extent that renders them unusable. This argument also goes for Voyager by the way.

I had no problem buying each TNG season on Blu-ray for $60, knowing that it was actually cheaper than most 26-episode shows, and miles ahead of the DVDs quality wise (which I never had in the first place).
I do have a problem, however, spending $50 for a Roku box only to spend $96 a year to watch ONE show, but that's unrelated to this topic

If you have cable already, switching to using your Roku and Sling/Netflix/etc will end up paying for itself after a while.

In regards to DSC, just wait till all the episodes are out, pay for a month, watch the crap out of it, and then cancel. Easy. :D

It feels as if the same people who tell me to "get with the times" and embrace CBS All Access are the ones who refused to "get with the times" and spend $50 per season on TNG as their VHS tapes still worked. Am I the only one who notices? Trekkies are weird.

I haven't driven in nearly 20 years, and have three kids. While I'm a stay-at-home Dad now, I never needed a cell phone when working. Rode the bus and read a book.

Considering that CBS could easily plunk down the $10-20 million or so it would cost to fund a full-on HD remaster for all seven seasons, I wouldn't be particularly interested in signing up for a crowdfunding campaign.
