Dream destination

If you had to choose one destination in the world (or even out of it) to visit, which would it be, and why?

Myself, it would be Machu Picchu, because it's breathtakingly beautiful, and I want to have a chance to spend time and ponder exactly for what purpose it was built.

I've been to a bunch of my dream destinations, but Machu Picchu is at the top of my list currently. However, there's no mystery as to why it was built. It's a city that people lived in. They've mapped out religious, industrial, and agricultural sections.

The mystery is the fact they all disappeared.

But what a ridiculously difficult location to build a megalith settlement! It's a wonder it was possible at all - the astonishing work of an advanced civilisation thousands of years ago. It would be an enormous undertaking even now. The actual quoted dates are merely guesswork, as it is impossible to carbon date the structures themselves. To build such a settlement so far back in history, suggests a truly special purpose. In any case, it would be an enchanting experience.

It is astonishing, no doubt. I believe they built it as the Spaniards were invading, and indeed the Spaniards never found it. I'm sure the Spaniards provided a lot of the motivation for building in such an inaccessible site. I just heard that they expect that the entire inhabitation of MP might've only been 100 years.

I hear it may have been a spiritually significant meditation site... with the lower levels of oxygen being a bonus, as it has been with other ceremonial sites such as the Oracle at Delphi - due to certain gases in that case. :D

To be more serious, I am more interested in the beauty and workmanship of the settlement. I would probably characterise it as the world's most breathtaking village, if you like heights.

The minute ease and speed of accessibility is established (- transporters), I am sure some ingenious individual will snap it up as their personal sanctuary. :p

Any other wished for destinations? It doesn't matter if the only special thing about it is that a dear friend lives there, who you would like to visit... :) Even the top wonders of the world are merely someone's opinion, it does not mean your own choice is any less amazing.

I would like to go to Australia and New Zealand. Technically two destinations, I know, but close enough. I've never been to either before but I just know that I would like it there, and I'm someone who does not enjoy travel generally. In fact I've even said that if I were to ever move out of the U.S., the only other country I'd want to live in is Australia. I'm really not entirely sure why...it just seems like a great place.

The planetary showroom floor inside of Jupiter. I've never seen anything as magnificient, and I can't imagine anyplace I'd go rather than seeing that again if the opportunity presented itself. I'd really like to take the wife and kids this time, too - I was in jr. high the last time I went.

The closest thing I've experienced on Earth is the inside of Spaceship Earth at Epcot. It, at least, gets the sense of how tiny you are and how huge what you're looking at is mostly right. But Jupiter is a lot more impressive.

There are a lot of places I'd like to go to and things I want to see. Like the Guiness brewery, cathedrals across Europe, the Great pryamids, the Latin American pryamids, Stone Henge, Easter Island, and too many more to list. But first on the list is the Guiness brewery.

I wanted to go live in New Zealand for a while a few years ago. But, I was denied for not being sponsored by an employer or some other silly reqiurement like that. Evidently one can't just show up, even with their own health care insurance and a permanent retirement income.

Then I found out that The Shire didn't really exist anyway. Even though the landscape does in hundreds of places.

New Zealand is definitely worth the effort getting there. I've even visited The Shire! (a.k.a. Matamata) :bolian:

My favourite spot there is a small island in the Bay of Plenty, North Island, called Moutohora a.k.a. Whale Island, near Whakatane - best time is to go in the late summer as is allowed by the local authorities. It has a beautiful little beach and a good place for hiking for the day too.

Top on my list is Iceland. I have wanted to go there since I first saw pictures of the country when I was about 11 years old.

The World. All of it. :D

But if you want to be concise, Santorini. Stunningly beautiful, and a city under volcanic ash that will take archaeologists 300 years to fully uncover.

If I was allowed a second choice... maybe London.

my first choice would be japan anywhere would do i';ve been told it's a pretty nice place

if not then possibly the pyramids in egypt or to australia

There are a million places on Earth I'd love to see, but, if I could only choose one, it would be Monticello.

If I get to go off Earth, then it would be Tranquility Base.
