    You may never have heard of him before, but if you're a Trekkie his last name should immediately ring a bell.

    Dr. Robert Bussard, inventor of the Bussard ramjet, a scientist whose name in the Star Trek universe will forever be associated with the glowing spherical intakes on starship warp nacelles, has passed away. Dr. Bussard was 79.
