"Dove" & "Gideon" Story Outline Reviews

Sir Rhosis

After a couple months absence due to family issues, I've written reviews of the story outlines for "Day of The Dove" and "The Mark of Gideon."

Thought the first was too 1960s-centric, was confused as hell about the last -- luckily Dr. Jim Ausfahl, M.D., a frequent contributor of fiction to the site, answered my incoherent medical inquiries.

Reviews are under the "Outlines Which Evolved Into Episodes" section, little over halfway down the page. Go there from the first link in my sig.

As always, regarding opinions, YMMV.

Cool stuff yet again Sir Rhosis. I really appreciate these reviews and the background information you provide.

They should have saved the Peace Day song and dropped it into "The Way to Eden."

"No more fighting forever..."
"No more trouble in my body or mind..." :scream:

The Peace Day song, had Enterprise entered a 5th year, would've been retconned to be "Faith of the Heart." Just kidding, I like Enterprise.

thank you thank you for all your efforts
:)

i was reading the conscience of the king one.
it is too bad kirks supposed age at the time probably helped kill that speech.
that would have been a classic kirk moment.

I'm popping over there now - I can't wait to see if the original outline for TMOG makes any more sense than the aired episode.

Wow. That was completely different. It probably would have made a much better episode. Who the hell thought up that idiotic "duplicate Enterprise" plotline anyway?

BTW, I learned something from your writeup. I had no idea that dogs possessed "sharp stick" phalluses. Now I know where the expression "painful as being poked with a sharp stick" comes from.

If you were a TV producer who had to do a planet-based episode with no money to spare for building new sets, it would have undoubtedly seemed a lot less idiotic to you. It's certainly no more idiotic than DS9's "Extreme Measures" having the inside of Sloan's subconscious mind look exactly like the corridors of the station.

TV production is about making do with what you can get. It would be great if all story decisions in TV could be based purely on creative factors, but a lot of the time, you have to settle for something you know is conceptually weak, because it's the only way to get an episode in the can on time and under budget.

Besides, it's easy enough to retcon "The Mark of Gideon" to make more sense. Just assume that the duplicate Enterprise was actually in a relatively small holodeck.
