I thought the NOKIA placement in XI was cool. As I recall, Winchells could be seen in VOYAGE HOME. Can you think of any other blatant product placement in a TREK movie or even TV show?

ST IV had Michelob beer and a Mac computer. And a huge ad on a wall for Pacific Bell. Kirk's mountain-climbing shoes in ST V promoted a certain brand, IIRC.

^The first post neglected to mention that Winchell's was the name of a brand of doughnuts. I've never heard of them.

I've never seen them either. Maybe they're like Dunkin Donuts, we don't get them here in Northern California, so they're sort of a mystical legendary entity. THe existance of Dunkin Donuts is pretty much the closest thing I've ever heard to a "modern legend."

Was Winchell's a real product placement, though? Or was this just something they caught in the background because they're filming in a city (San Fran) that has a Winchell's shop? IMO, it would be a real product placement if you see Kirk and Spock walking around with a bag full of Winchell's doughnuts.
