Don't know why you should hate Ke$ha?

Rii

Rear Admiral
You will after reading this epic screed:

My beef with “TiK ToK” is basically this: it is very very easy to hate, but very very hard to hate productively. The dispiriting realization that arrived hot on the heels of my initial oh-my-god-I-freaking-HATE-this reaction was: oh wait—I’m MEANT to hate this. “TiK ToK” depends for its success on its capacity to polarize, and to polarize instantaneously: I would pretty much bet money that anybody who derives pleasure from this song is going to derive at least part of that pleasure by imagining somebody like me recoiling from it. Ergo, if I hate “TiK ToK,” “TiK ToK” wins.

Hint: it has something to do with American conservatism.

This guy has a blog but not a CD player in his car? For real? When most people would simply turn off a song they don't like this guy writes a book length blog entry about it? Someone has a seriously inflated opinion of themselves.

The funny thing is that the piece is actually quite engaging at first, and then it slowly dawns upon the reader that it just goes on and on and on.

It took me two sessions to get through it all, and having done so I've decided to like Ke$ha on principle.

I managed to read through to where he started talking about NPR, then skipped to the end to catch him calling it country music and a conservative anthem.

I also lol'd at the part where he claimed he was an indie music snob, one who doesn't have a cd player in his car....

I'd almost think it was a prank if it weren't for the comments.

Never heard the song. Is it that bad?

Here it is. Evil media conglomerate won't allow embed. :shifty:

And here's one of hers I actually kinda like:

Who is Ke$ha and who or what is Tik Tok?

Let me Wiki that for you:

Kesha Rose Sebert (born March 1, 1987),[3] better known by her first name Kesha ( /ˈkɛʃə/ KESH-ə, stylized Ke$ha), is an American pop singer, rapper and songwriter. Her debut single, "Tik Tok", released in late 2009, reached number one in eleven countries and set the weekly records for digital downloads of a female artist and total Top 40 Mainstream airplay in the US.[4][5] By reaching the top in 2010, the song also became the first Billboard Hot 100 number one of the decade[6] and the longest running number one debut single by a female artist since 1977.[7]

It's a random song that's more or less catchy. There's no reason you should ever have to listen to it unless you're at a bar, club, or party, and then you can drink. Otherwise, change the channel or put in an iPod/CD/Cassette. It's not that hard.

Never heard the song. Is it that bad?

Probably not. The chorus is kind of catchy and grows on you a little. The lyrics and music are fairly inept. I think Kesha is more like a perfect storm of what is wrong with music today. A brand new artist who comes with a pre-manufactured persona and media hype. A song that is so autotuned that it doesn't matter whether the artist can sing or not. A young very white, very blonde girl trying to adopt a wigger pose. She's more just completely ridiculous than bad.

I'm trying to figure out if there's any irony in what she does. It's difficult to tell (as opposed to Gaga, where it's pretty clear that there is).

I don't hate her, I just think that the popularity of this current wave of autotuned garbage is more than a little sad.

Who is Ke$ha and who or what is Tik Tok?

I hate these people because they change their names to things like Ke$ha and Tik Tok.

I always love to read about hip hop people getting arrested and the articles always mention their real names:
"Tik Tok, whose real name is Dennis Turkelton..."
