Dont drop the SOAP

I just bought the entire series "SOAP" yesterday at Best Buy. And we started watching it last night. My wife has never seen this show, but I remembered it back in the day. As I recall, down the line, Burt will eventually be abducted by aliens, and one of the girls will have the son of the devil.

My favorite character is indeed Burt (Richard Mulligan) Campbell. I think he really is the best character. Yeah, I know, Billy Crystal is on the show as well, and is great too. But Burt was so loonie, he was always what I remembered the most about the show....

With all the stange plots (alien abudction), I wonder if Soap could be considered a SCIFI comedy?

And if I am correct, they wanted him to be the voice of some alien on TNG but he couldn't do it.....

Anway. If you haven't seen Soap, you should. Its great fun, though I think it peters out at the end...

My family watched SOAP back in the day. I was too young to understand it then (~8 or 9 at the time) but they would roar in hysterics. Richard Mulligan had them in stiches and I do remember a very young Billy Crystal getting his start (his character was gay). Katherine Helmond's portrayal of Jessica Tate was also top notch.

yes...I forgot about Jessica Tate.

Last week we were watching the Love Boat, and on this particular episode, the actors/actresses who played Chester-his oldest son (Bob Urich)-Corine-and Mary Cambpell were all on playing different parts though..was weird seeing them, and LOVE BOAT was made around SOAP, so they even looked like their characters....

Whenever someone starts a -forgotten shows or what should I watch next thread I try to post SOAP. Its one of the funniest tv shows I've ever seen in my life. What did the series cost you?

Oh man, everyone on ABC pretty much appeared on all other ABC programs. People appeared multiple times on Fantasy Island and Love Boat but as different characters!

I got for 75$..which was pretty good. It was on sale...

I love the period of shows where Burt thinks he can turn invisible....funny stuff. We left off on the episode where CHUCK and BOB join the show...I loved BOB!!!

"Really, Mary, I just went 'Whoosh!'" (Burt waves his arms and disappears and Mary faints.)

Died laughing over that one.

Haven't seen it in years, but I watched it religiously when it was first on...

Richard Mulligan is SO funny... and he did the best Custer ever in Little Big Man. :D

I LOVED that series. So much in fact, between scripts, I wrote a final episode of SOAP (which ended with three major cliffhangers which were never resolved).

Enjoy (or not)

SOAP Finale

Bear in mind it really won't make much sense unless you re-familiarize yourself with the final few episodes of the series, and remember that Burt's son was an alien hybrid.

It was an amusing series, and indeed had some rather twisted stories.... but it wasn't really at all what I would call scifi / fantasy.
