Donald "Duck" Dunn - RIP

The former bassist for Booker T. and the MG's & the Blues Brothers, among other groups, has passed away at age 70.

CNN Story

My main exposure to him was, of course, in the Blues Brothers movie. But no doubt, the man could lay down a bassline that could turn goat piss into gasoline.

^ Duck wasn't on the original version of that one.

Here's a live 2008 version.

Aw hell. Terrible news. A wonderful bass player, not flashy but what a groove he had. The MGs, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, the Staples... Those Memphis cats had a sound that changed the world, and Duck Dunn in the pocket was a huge part of it.

Keep it tight, Duck.

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter played for the Doobies, "Duck" isn't listed in any line-up, even as a temp or session guy.

As a bassplayer, I appreciate his skill, and his way of making a song just hit a grove and roll on. Damn shame.
