Don Rickles Passes. :(

At the age of 90.

Irreverent and definitely not PC... But the man was a legend and an innovator in comedy.
RIP, sir...

A legend--yes, that he was. When I was young (back in the Dark Ages), it seemed like Don Rickles was a permanent fixture on Carson's Tonight Show. I can't think of one without the other.

The best part is when Don goes in for the second kiss.

R.I.P. Don

“I’m mainly here to praise Don, because this is a tribute. I think we should get the bestiality suit out of the way right now. It wasn’t a goat. It was a sheep." (Bob Newhart)

Remember, we come to bury Don, not to praise him. But RIP anyway.

Is there anyone left from that era who could roast Don properly?

Those things they call "roasts" nowadays aren't funny.

Though to be fair, when Don roasted somebody on the old Dean Martin Roast, they got utterly roasted.

Donald Sutherland as Oddball delivered one of my favourite movie lines to Don Rickles in "Kelly's heroes"

"You are a New Yorker,to you a hero is some sort of ....weird sandwich!":rommie:

Yes they were.. I love the commercials they have for DVD sets. I'd never buy them, because I honestly don't think I'd watch, but the commercials show some hysterical moments..

Honestly, I don't think anyone could properly roast him now.. Everyone from those old shows is gone now.. With a few exceptions being some of the "also starring" guests who were never that funny... I mean think of the line ups. Dean Martin, Buddy Hackett, Phyllis Diller, Johnny Carson, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Flip Wilson, Art Carney.... The list goes on and on.. The only one left is Jerry Lewis (who was doing a tour with Rickles recently I believe), and frankly, he's in pretty rough shape.. Definitely a bygone art and bygone era...

Thank goodness it was an era recent enough to be captured on tape/film, not lost and has been, for the most part, transferred to DVD.

How sad. His last tweet was to wish his wife a happy 52 anniversary.
RIP MR. Rickles, thanks for everything... You hockey puck!

The Dean Martin roasts were pure, unvarnished, absolute comedy gold.
My siblings and I came close to busting our guts as kids watching Rickles on those and in many variety show appearances. Stumbling across him in films "Kelly's Heroes" and yeah, Jimmy Olsen comics was pure gravy.

RIP and thanks for the laughs.

Very sadden to hear about his death. He is simply irreplaceable. He was one of a kind.

Ah, Don Rickles. An incredibly gifted comedian. I don't think he ever wrote any material-- he just opened his mouth and hilarity ensued.

RIP, you hockeypuck. :(
