Does Starfleet feel a little more robust now?

The Squire of Gothos

From TOS to ENT, we had our select intrepid captains, surrounded by a sea of mad admirals and expendibles of various shades.

Something about the trailers for XI though makes it seem like Kirk isn't going to be a beacon amongst other fly by night captains, but is going to have to try hard to come up to scratch.

Anyone else get that vibe?

Well no, of course he's not. He just started.

And I've never seen the rest of Starfleet as anything but the best of the
best. But the Captains and crews of the Enterprise I felt should always be
somewhere just above the rest.

For me, the biggest issue with the first 10 movies was that we got to hear about Starfleet, but never actually saw Starfleet, except for a very brief space battle in First Contact.

You can put that down to any one of 10 reasons, lack of budget being No. 1.

From memory, JJ (or one of the other producers) have said that they didn't want to have incompetent Captains just to make Kirk look good.

Cheers

Could that be because he looks like a drunken punk about half the time? Obviously Captain Kirk will be created out of some pretty rough material in this film.

Dunno, havnt seen the movie yet.

It might seem more organized than it did in TOS.

We didnt see much of TOS starfleet and how it worked, until we got to the movies.

Well just have to wait and see.

Nope. Try again.

Yeah, it's good to see other starship captains who aren't tripping over their shoes - we saw one or two in TOS but few since.

I also like that one shot of the Starfleet cadets filling that huge auditorium - somehow that sense of scale has eluded the film series in the past even when they've tried to suggest it.

Awesome, his Robau-ness approves.

All Hail Robau!

The Enterprise doesn't have that sort of reputation yet.
