Does Shatner Wear Eyeliner?

The Master of Tarquin Hill

OK, maybe this subject belongs in the movie section but, it would get lost there.

I'm watching a section of of the STIII Special Features 2nd disc.

In this piece Shatner is giving input about the film while wearing civvies. It struck me that he was obviously wearing eyeliner. Now, I am not talking about the regular make-up one would expect from an actor, etc.

I mean, maybe this was a bad job, but it seems like I have seen this before w/ The Shat Man...?

Has anybody else noticed this?

BTW, if I hear Nimoy talk about Michael Eisner one more time...

Even in those sit-and-shoot-the-shit bits, the lights would make him look like Balok Puppet. Make anyone look that way.

Joe, out of focus

du(de), this wasn't the tranya. Billy looked like freakin Robert Smith (of The Cure).

I'm sayin, it was bad.

Go! Run! Now! And look at your DVD. Tell me I am wrong.

On that one distorted close up of the evil Kirk in "The Enemy Within", it definitely looks like eye liner.

It's a common makeup technique and not the least bit unusual, especially in those days of smaller, lower definition television sets.

Some shows really don't need to be seen in hi def.

It's the feather boa and the pumps that bother me.

Joe, lisping

MOTH, ANY time that "talent" appears on camera for a scene, an interview, an appearance on a talk show, a commercial, whenever... they are made up. The skill of the makeup artist is usually in direct proportion to the budget of the shoot.

So, OF COURSE, every time you see the Shat on camera he's wearing eye liner and OF COURSE it's noticeably bad for a quickly and cheaply produced DVD extra. The "pre-HiDef" argument above is a valid point, too.

In some early Season 1 TOS episodes, Shatner came off looking like a part-time drag queen who forgot to wash all his makeup off. But even more modern films and shows suffer the same problem. In the original CLERKS(1994), the first scenes shot using Randal(Jeff Anderson)show the poor guy with way too much eye makeup on. The limited, paltry budget and a somewhat "generous" makeup lady on or off the set made poor Jeff Anderson look like a gay raccoon.:p

Not only did Shatner wear make-up -- but I have heard a rumor that Nimoy's pointed ears were not real!

The HELL you say!

Does that mean Scotty's accent was fake, too? I'm so disillusioned!
