Does Britain Need a Peaceful Political Revolution?

It's time people woke up to the truth. We can't do anything about the government and the people within it, it's too late, we are trapped. We might aswell be in a dictatorship.

That's insulting to the people who live in genuine dictatorships. In the UK we get unemployment benefit, free healthcare, free education, freedom of speech, freedom of worship; there's plenty of food, access to clean water on tap; and you can moan about how repressed you are on the internet.

How naive are you?

The sound of ignorance.

Quite - after all even Churchill said that Britsih democaracy was crap, but he could not think of a better one!

It is worth remembering in Britain, like every other country in the world, bad shit happens, and yes SOME of it is caused by lazy, stupid, greedy or incompetent politicians.

Blaming the government for everything has become a bit of a habit for the British people and the British press - they have a share of the blame but lets not let the others responsible wriggle away!

The British people just need to go vote and throw the bums out.... although I wouldn't expect even that given the apparent ambivalence to the gradual erosion of their civil liberties.

It's okay, David Cameron and Boris Johnson will save us all.

Legislative elections:
United Kingdom average voter turnout: 76%
United States average voter turnout: 54%

Be careful of your glass house there.

The UK is in need of political reform, rather than "revolution". I always find that the leaders of these revolutions always go on about more equality and rights for everyone, and then promptly become as bad as the people that were thrown out. Animal Farm is pretty much the best treatise on political revolution that exists.

Basically, we need proportional representation and greater public consultation on political issues. That would make things more fair, as votes would actually count as they'd represent the political feelings of the public (yes, we'd get one or two BNP, but better they're exposed and humiliated rather than presenting the impression that they speak for the "silent majority" as now), and also we the people, who are subjected to tax and the "welfare programs" that vast numbers are being forced on to, might actually get a say in what is done to us.

People here (US) are saying the same thing. "A second American revolution is coming" and that sort of Tea Party shit.
Not for another fifty years or so; social upheavals of that magnitude only happen once in a century.

In any case, this Thread falls under Bonz's moratorium on controversial Topics, so down comes the curtain.
