Does anyone have the script for Court Martial or The Ultimate Computer?

I've always assumed that after WNMHGB and the damage of crossing the barrier, that the ship returned to a starbase for repairs, reassignments etc. Boyce retired, Kelso and Mitchell had been killed, so McCoy, Sulu and various other personnel came aboard. During this time, Starfleet uniforms changed subtly (as per later series), or it could be that the crew only had the new uniforms during the refit and were the last to receive them, having been out in deep space. A small refit then allowed the ship to resume its mission. In The Corbomite Maneuver the ship resumes its exploration and star-mapping.

Given Kirk's significant and specific order to probe out in WNMHGB I assume that Kirk has only recently had command transferred from Pike. The opening narration from the unaired pilot could easily refer to Starfleet/the Enterprise up until 'now', rather than necessarily specifically Kirk and his own (new) command of the Enterprise.

Later, Mendez specifically asks if Kirk met Pike, despite knowing he took over from him. So it may well be that the Enterprise docked for a significant time at a star base before Kirk was assigned. Maybe there were only partial refit jobs undertaken between Pike and Kirk's command change. This would be why the ship doesn't drastically alter until after WNMHGB.

These are just my thoughts of course :)

Filming Date vs. In-Universe Date
The Cage: Nov/Dec 1964 vs. circa. 2254
WNMHGB: July 1965 vs. circa. 2265?
The Corbomite Maneuver: May 1966 vs. circa. late-2266

Based on filming dates, etc., I envision anywhere between 10 months (if you go by actor aging) to 15 months between WNMHGB and the start of the series. YMMV :).

(By the way, Sulu was already aboard but in a different job.)

You can't rely on real-world intervals. As you say, the two pilots were only a year apart in reality but 11 years apart in-story. TMP was a decade after TOS but was supposed to be just 2.5 years after the end of the 5-year mission. TWOK was only 3 years after that but was set more than a decade later, close to the real-time interval. TSFS was two years later but set no more than a couple of weeks later. TVH was a further two years later but set only 3 months later (never mind the Okudachron's bizarrely wrong dates). TFF was three years after that but set only about 6 months later (per Harve Bennett). And TUC, conversely, was only two years after that but jumped forward 7-8 years to reset once more to the real-time interval after TOS.
