Doctor Who, Tennant win NTA Awards

Some great news just posted on the Doctor Who News Page - Doctor Who and David Tennant have just won the National Television Awards (NTAs) in the UK. This is their equivalent of the Peoples Choice Awards/Emmys, I believe (it's audience chosen but they only choose TV categories, but all the other stuff). Doctor Who has won the best Drama award each year since it came back to TV in 2005, and David Tennant won his second Best Drama performance trophy.

Not bad since it wasn't even on regularly last year!

Make sure you check out the great pics, including some great shots of The Cribbins himself!

Nope, no one likes RTD's Doctor Who, no sir! We can't even say "well, it was Moffat who wrote it" - RTD wrote or co-wrote the whole thing last year! :p

EDIT: It may or may not be up for long, but the award presentation for Doctor Who is up on YouTube. Listen to the crowd. They treat Doctor Who and its stars like bloody rock stars over there.

(PS Hopefully I haven't violated a rule posting a YT link. Since this program will not be aired in North America and was coverage of a live event, I think it's fair game.)

EDIT#2: Case you're wondering who the elderly lady is, she played Wilf's "girlfriend" in The End of Time

That's June Whitfield. Over here, like Who, she's a national institution. :)

Thanks for the link. I saw Who collect its award. Missed DT getting his because someone who shall remain nameless (my husband) wanted to watch a documentary on the other side.

Tsk imagine not knowing who June Whitfield is

I'm sorry but I have no respect for an awards show that gives Ant and Dec a trophy 9 years running!:klingon:

I'm glad that Tennant won; his performance in the specials might arguably be his best performance on Who.

But I'm not sure that Doctor Who deserved best drama. While Waters of Mars was good, I don't think the rest of the specials were up-to-snuff with regular Who quality.

Good for Tennant, though. :techman:

His segment is the most bombastic. The Murray Gold music and the audience go wild.

The moment they show his clip with the loud chorus the other nominees must be thinking "Fuck"

Personally I would have choose the scene when Wilf is the glass box. That would qualify for the "drama" part instead of "I don't want to go"

The "DAVID TENNANT" in sparkling graphics is a bit much isn't it?

He looked a tad emotional as the regeneration scene was played - I wonder if he's actually sat down and watched (some actors aren't keen on seeing their own work on the screen even when they've enjoying do it).

And still, if you mention 'Dr Who' over here, people think you mean that crazy looking guy with the long scarf. *sigh*

Can't watch the clip at the moment, as I'm at a con and the hotels net connection doth sucketh.

But well done David, and everyone else involved!

Thanks for the clips. I enjoyed them and I think he really deserved to win. Nice speech.

Poor Bernard, David was evil for springing that on him. "Whu?"

LOL! He and David were both lovely though.
