Doctor Who Specials Soundtrack?

I was wondering if there has been any mention by RTD or Julie or Murray about the possibility of a specials soundtrack release later this year or early next year. Obviously the filming of the specials has been different than the series so it probably wouldn't be released in November like the previous four have been, unless they're going to release it with music from Waters of Mars and End of Time before they air. There seemed to be a lot of recycled music used in The Next Doctor while we got tons of new music in The Planet of the Dead, my favorite bit was near the end when the Doctor flies the bus through the wormhole back to Earth and when the woman (forgot her name) warns about the knocking....sound of drums. Any opinions on this?

I would assume they're going to treat the specials like a regular season and combine them all in a single release. Presumably sometime between the last special and the beginning of season 5. But, for now nobody really knows.

Haven't heard anything, but I'd assume/hope that there'll be both a DVD box set and a soundtrack album for them.

Mind you, I still want a CD with some of the unreleased tracks so far - like the proud march music for Dextrus and the Roman soldiers in Fires Of Pompeii

I wouldn't assume on the box set. Apparently there's some law that says non-HD and HD productions can't mix in the same box set, so folks are starting to say there may not be a specials box set because The Next Doctor wasn't shot in high def (even though, bizarrely, it looks better on a standard def screen than Planet of the Dead did, particularly the painting-like opening scene). I'm picking up the individual releases, myself (as long as they're cheap, anyway). I hope they do a box, because I know Tennant did some of his video diaries for at least POTD.

I think the chances of us seeing a fourth CD will depend on whether Murray Gold continues with the series. If they change to a new house composer with Moffat, there might not be the enthusiasm for the BBC to authorize another set of recordings.

That said, I never expected Children of Earth to justify its own soundtrack (not that the music wasn't good, but it was only a 5-episode season) so maybe we'll see something released around the end of Tennant's tenure.

If there's a new song composed for one of the final specials, I would probably see that as a sign a soundtrack CD for at least the finale is inevitable. I agree, though, that I'd like to see some sort of bonus tracks featuring unreleased material, too.

Cheers!

Alex

Tennant has done Video Diaries for all the specials, as has Julie Gardner - and they ain't on the ND or POTD vanilla releases, ergo... they must be intended for a box set.

For some reason I agree about the box set thing...I saw three copies of Planet of the Dead left in Best Buy and ultimately didn't buy it because there was no podcast with it and despite the coolness of an hour long Confidential episode included no podcast or commentary track means no money from me.

Maybe they could do something similar to what the Battlestar Galactica Fourth Season Soundtrack did and release a two disc edition? If I recall the first CD had music from the first and second series. I would like to hear the unreleased music on a CD as well.
