Interesting Press Release here:

Not least of all because they talk about Series 12-15! And a bit funny because AFAIK Time Travel is one of the areas that native Chinese productions are forbidden from using by the Commies.

And I wonder if they'll follow in the footsteps of half the US films being made these days and slip in some Chinese actors or location shooting? I've actually thought for years that they should pay a visit to Hengdian World Studios.

The Chinese also strict rules against homosexuality in TV shows and movies, which is why a lot of high profile movies these days either leave gay characters out or are really subtle about it, like Sulu and his lover in Beyond. Or then there's Independence Day Resurgence, where Brent Spiner's character is totally in a relationship with that other guy, but they play all their scenes comically, because apparently this is okay in China.

Doctor Who is going to get some stuff edited out for China. Future seasons might even cut back on LGBT-related material for the sake of the Chinese.

Yeah I could potentially see Doctor Who do an episode in China in the future.
And while it isn't confirmation that we'll get seasons 12-15 it's certainly a good sign the BBC has long term plans for Who.

^^ I hope you're right.. Especially after what I just posted in the current ratings thread about my concerns that with a ratings dip, the Beeb may decide to shelve it for a while. :)

the Beeb may decide to shelve it for a while.
They would hot have selected Chibnall to be the showrunner if there was any possibility of it being shelved in the near future, nor would they be searching for a new Doctor. Indeed, were the show in that dire a situation, they'd pull the plug when Moffat and Capaldi left.
