Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston transformed into John Lennon

That's right, the ninth Doc is John Lennon:

The actor has donned glasses and grown his hair to take the role of the iconic singer, who was shot dead aged 40 by crazed fan Mark Chapman.
Eccleston will star in BBC4's Lennon Naked, which looks at the singer's relationship with Yoko Ono and his life as the Beatles fell apart.

There was an article the other day, in the Daily Mail I think, about finding him in a "urine soaked doorway" or something at midnight. I thought "oh my God, what's happened?" Turns out he'd just ducked in to make a phone call (and escape the photographer hounding him in the dark I suspect!). They had a similar photo illuatrating the article. I thought then that he looked great as Lennon.

Same here. As much as I love Eccleston's work, I just couldn't see it. Now I do.

I think he looks more like Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes. Maybe David Tennant should play his brother Rich Robinson.

As no one has mentioned it so far, Yoko is being played by none other than another Whoniverse star, Naoko Mori - the one and only Toshiko Sato.

What's that, you say? An entertainment program imposing culturally-defined gender roles ("Women should be young and sexy!") on characters based on real people who did not live up to those gender roles?

I've never heard of such a thing!

Naoko is probably closer to the age Yoko was when she met Lennon than Eccleston is to Lennon's age at that time. Ecclestone is currently four years older than Lennon was at the time of his death.

Not an easy thing to cast Yoko, unless you want to cast Canadian actress Jean Yoon as Yoko or Margaret Cho as Yoko.

Kim Miyori did a good job in "John and Yoko a Love Story".
