I don't think it's funny, but I find it disturbingly surprising how much its features resemble those of its macroscopic relatives.
do you think it needs explanation?
just that it's a Lord of the Rings reference. The whole fell beast getting decapitated/Nazgul scene.
If you have to explain it, then it's not funny.
I found it humorous.
I think it's more shocking and WTF than funny. Is that a real picture? The teeth looked shopped in. This is the direction it led me as opposed to just laughing at it.
Also, the quote is rather obscure. You'd get more laughs with something like OM NOM NOM, as stupid as that is.
The important thing though is if YOU think it's funny. If you do, great. Not all jokes have broad appeal.

I get it – "Do not stand between a Nazgul and his prey" – but it's too thin a connection to be anything more than mildly amusing.
I for one welcome our new humourous Nazgul-type overloads.
