Do you have a library card?

So I was watching some of the shorts from Rifftrax and came across that one there about the library and got me to thinking.

I don't remember the last time I went into and used library. I guess I take for advantage the fact that a lot of information is so freely and readily available on the internet and for the books I do want I can just go to Borders or B&N and sit down and read it there (or just freakin' buy the darn thing.)

So when was the last time you went to the library? Do you still have a library card?

Not counting my college library, which I only ever used when I wanted to print stuff out without wasting my own ink and paper, it's probably been 10-12 years since the last time I stepped foot in a library.

I do, and I used it all the time, once a week, but I just got a Kindle for Christmas so I think my library days are over.

I use my library a lot - especially since I discovered you can reserve books through their online catalogue, so it's like shopping at amazon only I don't have to pay anything (and I have to give the books back eventually) :)

I had one in my old suburb but didn't use it much. I don't have one in Chicago right now but I do use my university's library quite a bit.

Use it a lot. If I ask, they'll get a book in, so I don't have to buy it. If I really like it, I can then buy a copy for my shelf, if not, well, I've read it anyway. And I cruise the shelves and stumble across books I may not have otherwise found, like anything by Robert Goddard and CJ Sansom, great mystery/thriller writers (seriously, read them, they're very good).

And they get the big coffee table books I sure can't afford as well. I remember getting adeluxe edition coffee table book of the Bayeaux Tapestry, and reading to my kids as a bedtime story. :D Couldn't have done it otherwise.

I have library cards to 4 public library systems (each city in the area has its own) and access to the university library and law library at school. I check books out because I'm too cheap to buy them myself, and I figure my tax dollars and tuition dollars are paying for the libraries anyway, so I might as well get my money's worth.

I go to the library every week. When school is in session, I go to two libraries several times a week. My blog for book reviews is called "This Week at the Library".

A brand new library opened up in our neighborhood this year---a whole 5 minutes from my house. I've been there 3 times in about 7 months, and checked out two or three books each time.

I generally only use the reference library when I am researching something and I don't do that much anymore because now I do most of my research using the internet. All the books I read for enjoyment I buy from The Book Depository.

I think I still have a library card somewhere but it must have been at least 5 years since I used it.

I guess I should be a little ashamed that I don't use libraries more as I used to be a library technician.

I have three library cards in my wallet, and I used to spend a lot of time in the university library. Since I graduated I haven't had much reason to go to the library since mostly I used them to check out history books for research projects. I recently went to a new one near my house but they had a pretty poor selection and it was poorly designed and laid out so I doubt I'll go back.

I spent a lot of time in the library in high school because our school library doubled as one of the county's public libraries. So I would hang out there after school and check out several books and music CDs.

Since I started college and then grad school I have had an extremely small amount of time to read for pleasure, so checking out books for that purpose just wasn't a thought in my mind. Now that I do have free time I am using it to catch up on all the books I bought in the last decade but never got to reading. So maybe in the future, when I am tired of what I have, I will turn to the public library sytem once again.

Does this count?

I have a card for each of the three local library chains. One of these chains is obnoxious though: I have to type in my lengthy barcode number just to do a search. Even if I'm INSIDE the library. Ugh!
I think the last book I checked out and read was Let Me In.

I have as much as three library cards, but I seldom use the ones that are not connected to the Unversity.

I have a library card I can use for any library in the county. The nearest library is a 10-minute walk away but I don't use it as much as my husband. This library was threatened with closure a few months ago but there was a huge public outcry and the county backed down. My kids each have their own cards, though my older children get most of their books from their school library. When the kids were younger I would take them to the library once a week and we'd walk out with an average of 15 books.
