Do you agree with me or not?

Guys, I want to separate a topic from "Life after people" here, however there should be a documentary series on history channel on how to telling the story about humans leaving earth to lives on different planets in another solar systems.

My question is why are we still here on the earth? We should be able to spread our wings and lives on different planets, but not without appropriate plans to put on action! The reason why we have to leave earth, because something out there are threatening our very existence, it's very important to get away from them. We weren't meant to be here on the earth, we were meant to live on different planets. When will that be becoming reality at long last?

That's not where we're heading. We already have about 9 billion of people living here on the earth, by 2050, the numbers will be reaching up to 11 billion, I believe. That's threatening to our planet, so in the order to solving the problem of overpopulating, we've gotta to move off to another planets! That's simple.

Knowing what's best for us, and doing something about it? Two completely different things, otherwise we'd have ditched petrol-fueled cars decades ago.

Well I'm doing my part. I'll never become a father.

Heh.

I guess you can say I'm doing my part by NOT doing my part.......

We don't have the sufficient technology yet, and I'm not sure we'll have it in next 50 years ... Colonization of another planet is not like sending 3 people to ISS for a few weeks.

Your numbers are off a bit. There's only about 6 billion people on the planet and we may reach 9 billion by 2040. Although with developed nations having extremely low birth rates I would be surprised if the population ever goes about 10 billion. I just don't see overpopulation becoming a big problem for the world.

I dont know about you, but in my opinion we are at least 5 billion over a comfortable level now. I also think we are in the wrong forum.

I think we'll peak between 9 and 10 billion. Developed countries are already naturally declining in population, and the developing world is starting to cross over that demographic hump as well (which should help them develop, while their at it). By about 2050, I believe that the population of Earth will probably start to decline naturally.

While colonization may prevent the extinction of the human race, it will NEVER be a solution to the problem of overpopulation, it's logistically impossible.

As a person come late to fatherhood I tell you that I have one regret-that I didn't do this sooner. I'm a little older and slower and I wish I wasn't as its such a joy to be a daddy, but sometimes I'm just tired. I hate it when I am-I want to play with my kid all of the time and help teach him and watch him grow. I wish I'd done this 20 years ago-its magical.

A show about colonizing other planets would be cool-but you need to smoke a lot of dope to think that extrasolar colonization will relieve overpopulation-like Col Green said-its not logistically possible.

Well, not to derail the thread, but I gotta say, Yeah, If I was going to be a father, I too should have done it at least fifteen years ago (I'll be 40 or my next birthday next April), but age isn't the only thing stopping me. I also have cerebral palsy, and, like you, am MUCH slower because of that, and in poorer health than I used to be. It's for these reason that I have decided against fatherhood. I am simply unable to put in the work required. I honestly feel it would be a crime to bring a child into this life, then be unable to care for them. In parenting, half-assed just doesn't cut it. It's really an all-or-nothing kind of deal.

Because we don't know how to leave

The reason why we have to leave earth, because something out there are threatening our very existence, it's very important to get away from them.
If something is 'out there' do we really want to go 'out there' and meet them? Haven't you seen Alien? That's scary shit. I'd rather stay home.

We weren't meant to be here on the earth, we were meant to live on different planets.
As evidence by all the other planets out there that could support us.

Sure. Simple. You go first, we're right behind you.

Dude, perhaps you should lay off the sci-fi just a bit. Catch up on Fraiser or Leave it to Beaver for a while.
