Do the Ferengni charge to use to the toilet too?

I wonder if using the waste-extraction system (toilet) on Ferenginar costs a bar of gold pressed latium too, especially at the Tower of Commerce? While Quark and Rom were on Fereginer in S3 to settle Ishka’s illegal profit making, the Ferengi seemed to charge for everything else.

Unfortunately, charging to use the toilet is no longer a too far fetched idea.

I wouldn't put it past them, but if not then should Zek go back in time to 21st century England and attempt to use the toilets in Leeds train station I suspect that upon his return a lot of people may well be emptying more than their bladders when they go to the bathroom.

I doubt it would cost a bar, maybe a slip or strip at most. I doubt any shop or store on the planet would allow you to use their facilities without prior purchase or paying. Why give away something for free when you can charge for it?

I think if the Ferengi did charge for toiletries they could end up with excrement on the sidewalks (or whatever they have), so push may have come to shove and they may have to put them free(-ish?) otherwise having a society plagued with illness.

If they did excrete on the sidewalks a bunch of Ferengi would just become rich by offering to clean the stuff off (while selling it to farmers as compost) if they can tolerate the stink.

I'm sure the Ferengi factor in all costs. I think a Ferengi like Quark is too street-smart to alienate his customers so overtly, unlike Ryanair, apparently a company run by "morans".

Next, they'll be charging $1 for number one, and $2 for number two (more than two turds may result in further fees).

None of you remember when they actually started to try to do that in public places?

I remember it prompted a commercial that portrayed that it got so bad they charged for use on an airplane flight... Guy started out at the back of the place asking for change for a dollar. By the time he got to the front of the plane, he was trying to trade a $20 bill for a dime, while hopping.

^ My mum is from England and I've had to endure "penny for a pee" stories for my whole life so I don't find anything surprising about having to pay to use the toilet.

I bet the Ferengi think the musical Urinetown is the greatest story ever (especially with its twisted ending).

A lot of British railway stations charge you to use the toilets, and it's commonplace in public toilets on the Continent. Or if not a charge, deliberately set up to suggest a tip is mandatory.

I'm pretty sure on Ferenginar they do, remember they charge you for using the elevator and even for to sitting in a chair.

Maybe it's not a charge tho, more like a deposit lol

Yup. Seem to recall it being quite common in places like bus stations and such.

Ironically, pay toilets are the one thing the Ferengi admire the human race for.

Not quite sure what the big deal is on being charged to use a toilet...in someone's house it'd be weird, but in public that's just the way it goes, right?

It seems to be in Scotland. Main Station (Waverley) in Edinburgh charges 30p to use the toilet.

A sentence on that site "RyanAir is also looking to cut the number of toilets from three to one" reminded me of an experience I had a few weeks ago when going to Istanbul. It was my first flight ever, and I was standing in front of the toilet. Someone was doing a very good job of cluttering up the whole thing, judging by how long he was at it. The stewardesses were all looking at me for the whole 20 minutes, until I realized that on the opposite side (behind my back), was a toilet as well. And not one of them took the effort to stand up and actually tell me; all they did was look at my butt. :shifty: Damn Turkish airlines.

You'd think, though, that if you were gonna be charged for using them, someone might actually clean the damn things from time to time.

Well shopping malls/centres/areas around where I go (London) at least have free toilets, but that's probably in their interest, since it allows customers to quickly do their business then carry on going around looking at shops and buying stuff, rather than scramble around for change, or 'wasting' time looking for a free toilet.
