DIY Offsite Backup

Mr. B

As I've matured within the realm of computers I've gotten better and better about backing things up. I recently activated a RAID1 array in my desktop PC with two mirrored 500gb drives containing everything of circumstance. Although I still have this and other various backups around my home, I'd still
be screwed by a house fire.

Rather than sign up for Carbonite or some other online solution, I would like to have an online backup based in my place of work. I want to have a third, offsite drive mirroring the content of my RAID array, updated regularly via the internet.

I am vaugely familiar with programs like rsync and Deltacopy (windows wrapper for rsync), although these programs look a bit clumsy. Is anyone familiar with this sort of mirroring and the software used to accomplish it. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What is it about rsync that you find clumsy? I know there's stuff out there besides rsync, but I'm not familiar with it because I've never investigated or used anything besides rsync (and Unison, which is based on rsync but provides two-way synchronization). If you can elaborate on what you don't like about rsync and its derivatives, that might help us provide better advice.

While rsync may be a good program, I think I'd be better off with a program native to Windows.
