Distant Voices

I've recently been rewatching the entirety of DS9, in order. While there have inarguably been some clunkers, I found this episode incredibly painful to sit through. I'd even go so far as to call it the worst episode of DS9 (at least up to the end of the third season). The aged Bashir was ridiculous, the different facets were way too over the top, and everything was just so bloody obvious.

It isn't one of the better ones but it doesn't rank up there with "Move Along Home" or "Paradise".

I have to admit, I like "Paradise" a lot! The theme of anti-technology is something I find quite interesting. "Move Along Home" has its moments, too (especially the early Quark-Odo banter).

What I like about "Distant Voices" is the (admittedly inexpensive) way in which the different aspects of Bashir's psyche are portrayed by the cast. But all in all it is a not-so-good bottle show ...

I like it, mainly for the conversations between Garak and Bashir at the beginning and end.

I have always found Distant Voices difficult to sit through. Bashir just can't seem to carry the episode by himself.

I had some major problems sitting through this episode too... for one, I fell asleep halfway through and couldn't bring myself to rewatch it later. I just moved on to the next episode. Although, I now have a foolproof method for when insomnia strikes!
