Discovery Mirror Universe episode?

If Discovery makes it to a second or third season I wonder if there should be a Mirror Universe episode or even a mini-arc, either similar to the TOS “Mirror Mirror” episode where main characters in the prime universe accidentally end up in the Mirror Universe, or a 90 years later follow up to “In A Mirror Darkly” that only involves the Discovery’s mirror universe counterparts and maybe even a mention if the reign of Empress Sato or her possible dynstay was successful (which is described in ENT-era mirror universe novels, but hasn't been confirmed on-screen yet).

I don’t seem to remember if it was specifically stated if the transdimensional transporter accident in “Mirror Mirror” was the first instance of prime universe starfleet personal encountering the Mirror Universe?

"Mirror, Mirror" was the first time that Starfleet personnel encountered the Mirror Universe (the whole idea of a parallel universe seemed somewhat new to them-- perhaps the idea had fallen out of favor at some point). Enterprise did a story about the Mirror Universe, but it was from the Mirror Universe's perspective and no characters crossed from one universe to the next. I like the Mirror Universe stories for the most part, but I don't really want to see it on Discovery.

I wouldn't mind one MU episode, I think a whole arc would be a bit much. DS9's yearly sojourns to the MU got a bit tiresome. I enjoyed the ENT episodes though. It's fun to see twisted versions of our heroes.

No thanks. The next time I see the Mirror Universe I want to see what happened after the rebels brought down the Alliance. Did the Terran Empire return more evil than ever before? I certainly hope so.

At a certain point it might be fun for a single episode. Most of the fun of those episodes was seeing the actors play such wildly different characters.

If there's supposed to be continuity between Discovery and TOS, then I don't see how it would be possible.

Possible, but kind of a stretch. I would think "multiverse theory confirmed" would be pretty big headlines. Particularly among people interested in such things, like Starfleet officers.

In there anything in the episode stating the multiverse theory hasn't been confirmed? Here's where Kirk floats the alternate universe idea
SCOTT: Captain, the transporter chief mentioned a surge of power. The transporter lock might have been affected by the ion storm and we just materialised somewhere else.
KIRK: Yes, here. Not our universe, not our ship. Something parallel. A parallel universe co-existing with ours on another dimensional plane. Everything's duplicated, almost. Another Enterprise. Spock with a beard.
UHURA: Another Captain Kirk, another Doctor McCoy, another
MCCOY: An exchange. If we're here
KIRK: Then our counterparts must have been transporting up at the exact same time. Similar storms on both universes disrupted the circuits. We're here, and they're on our Enterprise. Probably asking the same questions. Are we in another universe, and if so, how do we get back to our own? They'll use the computer, and we have to.

The existence of Anti-Lazarus in "The Alternative Factor" already shows other universes are out there.
SPOCK: Jim, madness has no purpose or reason, but it may have a goal. He must be stopped, held. Destroyed if necessary.
KIRK: I don't follow you.
SPOCK: Two parallel universes project this. One positive, the other negative. Or, more specifically, one matter, the other antimatter.
Lazarus confirms it to Kirk
KIRK: Not completely. This is a parallel universe?
LAZARUS: Of course.
KIRK: Antimatter?
LAZARUS: Here, yes.
KIRK: And if identical particles meet
LAZARUS: The end of everything. Civilisation, existence, all gone. I tried to stop him, Captain. That's why I took your dilithium crystals.
KIRK: He has two more.
LAZARUS: That's very bad, Captain. If he comes through at a time of his own choosing. But I think if we hurry and you will help me, he can yet still be stopped. There's little time left. He meant to come through. When you accidentally passed through, it drained his crystals. It'll take him about ten minutes to re-energise with the equipment aboard his ship. That should give us enough time.
KIRK: Exactly what did I pass through?
LAZARUS: That's hard to explain, Captain. I call it an alternative warp. It's sort of a negative magnetic corridor where the two parallel universes meet. It's sort of a safety valve. It keeps eternity from blowing up.
KIRK: This corridor, is it what caused the magnetic effect, the winking out phenomenon?
LAZARUS: Precisely, Captain, but not because of its existence. Because, because my foe entered. The corridor is like a prison, with explosives at the door. Open the door, and the explosives might go off. Stay inside
KIRK: And the universe is safe.
LAZARUS: Both universes, Captain. Yours and mine.
So perhaps other parallel realities have been encountered prior to the one visited by the Enterprise.

So they could do a story set in a completely different alternate universe. Perhaps one that's completely indistinguishable from the one they came from. They could spend the whole episode researching the computer memory banks for differences and not finding any-- the final twist could be that... maybe they never left home at all!

I wouldn't mind if they went to the Mirror Universe once for fun. I wouldn't want it to be a regular thing though.
