Discovery Launch Tie-in's by Beyer & Mack

Really hoping they're just addition to the story and not essential to understanding the story. They did that with halo 4 and 5 and while i knew what was going on and understood everything my mate who i played with had no idea who characters were and what the significance of some things were. A lot of people just won't have time for that.

Not only do we have Star Trek Discovery to look forward to but novels by Kirsten Beyer and David Mack. For me this is great news. What are your thoughts?

Actually Dave is writing the novels. Kirsten is the show staffer who's overseeing the novels and comics to keep them in sync with the show, kind of like the role Roberto Orci had with the Kelvin-Timeline comics from IDW. Though Kirsten will still be writing Voyager novels as her work on the show permits.

I imagine it'd be very oblique, but is there any possibility of slipping in some kind of USS Discovery reference in future Trek novels? Or is that not possible from a legal stance or with this new Beyer-led story group?

Could Kirsten Beyer, theoretically, have Admiral Janeway reference the series in some way in the next Voyager relaunch novel?

I have no idea what the Discovery team's policies are vis-a-vis the novels, but there shouldn't be any "legal" issues here, since the show is a CBS production and Simon & Schuster is their affiliate. Presumably, since this is a CBS-made, Prime-Universe series, future novels would be required to stay consistent with it, just as they've had to do with every previous Trek TV series (except arguably TAS, which is sometimes acknowledged and sometimes ignored).
