Spoilers Discovery and the Novelverse - TV show discussion thread

^ That one's easy to handwave away. Starfleet Intelligence's information on the Breen (which was always sketchy at best) was incorrect. Easy peasy.

Well, we have our canonical Breen background now. Zero Sum Game to Fortune of War were fun while they lasted.

I don't see any incompatibility. The novels established that the Breen comprise many different species; I'd imagine that was something Dave did on purpose as a pre-emptive safeguard in the event of canon establishing an appearance for the Breen. It's simple enough to assume that the species seen in DSC is just one of the various Breen member species. Also, it's 800 years later, which could easily account for any major difference in the depiction of their customs, laws, beliefs, etc.

The irony is that the past two episodes have been set in Tzenkethi space, so I've spent two weeks wondering if we were about to get canonical Tzenkethi that contradicted the novel's version, but instead we got Breen. And the additional irony is that DSC's Breen look a little bit like the novels' Tzenkethi.

The episode was consistent with the novels, at least in regards to the fact the Breen are capable of speaking other languages.

Looks like the Section 31 TV movie...
Will cover a lot of the same ground as Die Standing did, with flashbacks to Georgiou's family
