Director Ralph Senensky Dies at 102

He had SUCH a great run and, bless him, he was sharp as a tack all the way to the end. His website is a treasure trove of information about not only Star Trek, but the other shows he directed. I hope it stays up for a good long time.

Weird that I was just thinking about him this morning. He seemed like a wonderful person. I wish I had met him.

^ Yes, his website is great. I noticed that he was not as active in posting comments, so I began to suspect that something was amiss. The same situation goes for Barbara Luna.

Sad to see he's passed, but 102 is a helluva life. And that Senensky was sharp as a tack 'til the end is an absolute gift.

Really hope the Internet Archive has gotten a full backup of the site, just in case.

I hope for that as well.

Trek Works (Boyd Crompton) passed away before he could assemble an original AMT kit he got from his father who also passed before he could build it.

We have lost a lot of creative people these past few years. Never enough time.

This follows closely on June Lockhart leaving us at age 100. These are real moments to stop and remember a life.

I recall seeing a thank you note that Nimoy wrote to Senensky during TOS, probably for "This Side of Paradise." Something about his thoughtful and sensitive handling of the story. Maybe it was included in the book I am Not Spock. I'd have to dig it out and look.

Yes -- that letter is on Senensky's website. Scroll down till right before the comments and you'll see it.

Ralph Senensky was kind enough to reply to me about ten years ago when I posted a comment about his direction of a Partridge Family episode (kitschy show, but his direction of several episodes was excellent).

Senensky's unjustified firing from "The Tholian Web" remains one of Star Trek's biggest behind-the-scenes blunders.

I'm checking to make sure the pages are on the Wayback Machine.

You know, you can easily check this if you add the Wayback Machine (WBM) plugin to your browser. And you can save pages to it easily from that.

One of ST's best directors. His work was always a cut above some of the block-and-tackle that usually had to be done. It wouldn't hurt for some modern Trek-whatever directors to study him.
