Digital conversion of Super 8mm

I have an old Super 8mm film real of a kind of wacky, silly sci-fi adventure tale that my childhood friend and I did a few decades ago. I looked on-line at all the options to get it digitally transferred, and it's rather mind boggling on the choices and the prices.

I opted to give Sam's Club a go, as they have a service for this. Well, it turned out that they outsource it to a small firm that doesn't do very good work. Their transfer sucked. No cleanup whatsoever... not even overcoming the jitters from splices. The resolution was even worse than 480p. Last but not least, the idiots forgot the sound! Even though AUDIO was explicitly cited in the work order. Well, they had a satisfaction guarantee, so with the audio missing it was easy to get my money back upon returning all the material.

Post scanning is probably the most expensive aspect of digital video conversion. There's all the filters to apply, color enhancement, contrast balance, and frame editing to do. So, the very first step is just getting a really good "high" resolution as possible scan. Next perform some test edits to see what can be done on the amateur level... then turn that over to a service to do the rest. I'm a bit exhausted on exploring the options.

Anyone here done this before and can recommend a reliable and good cost/value vendor for a Super 8mm to digital conversion?
