Die Hard - Best Xmas Movie. ;)

Yup, my favourite Christmas film as well. Actually had my girlfriend say last night "But why?"

Er...because it's set at Christmas time?

This is one of my holiday traditions... Sitting back and watching Die Hard on Christmas.

And just for fun, the music video for Die Hard by Guyz Nite. I can't watch this without  a few times and getting corus of yippee ki yay mother fucker! stuck in my head.

All the same here - I'll be watching Die Hard tomorrow evening...

Why is it the best Xmas movie?

It's about the trials of one honest man just looking to spend a traditional holiday with his family, who struggles with the epitome of personal greed amid a temple to rampant commercialism. Greed (Hans) overpowers commercialism (Nakatomi Corp) but honest family values (McClane) kicks the crap out of Greed.

It's as meaning-of-Christmassy as you can get without the Jesus bit, and even then McClane doesn't have a place to stay yet cos all the inns are closed...

"Now I have a machine gun too. HO HO HO!"

scrawled on the dead guy's chest.

I love that video so much, and I especially love people's reactions when they see it for the first time.

Die Hard is indeed one of my top Christmas films, and I have every intention of watching it on Christmas Eve.

I love Die Hard, esp. at Christmas time. :)

It's the way Alan Rickman delivers the line in his accent as he reads it that makes it so special. :guffaw:

I think the favorite part of that movie for me is Rickman's cowboy "accent". Cracks me up everytime.

Not only the best Xmas movie but for my money the best action movie EVER. Every single thing about this movie is fantastic - the central premise, the script, the plot, the dialogue, the hero, the villain, the direction, the stunts, the action, the cast ... I can't think of one thing I dislike about it.

Yeah, it's easily the greatest action movie of all time. Great Christmas too, but there are some real contenders namely Gremlins and Scrooged.

Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie, and my favorite action movie. I watch it every Christmas, and since I bought a PS3 this year I bought it on Blu Ray. I look forward to watching it in HD this year.

Exactly. Everything in this movie works. Every other action movie wishes it was this movie.

Completely agree, the best action film ever beyond a shadow of a doubt, and what makes it really great is that while some of it stretches credulity, on the whole McClane doesn't do anything that is that completely impossible (apart from maybe grabbing hold when he falls down the air shaft) Compare that to 4.0 where he's standing on a frickin' plane!

I still remember seeing it at the cinema and being on the edge of my seat. When Hans tells Karl to shoot the glass and I remember sitting there going "eh?" then the camera pans along to Bruce Willis' bare feet...ouch!

Great plot, great acting Willis and Rickman make fantastic opponents. It's funny, exciting...to be honest the only slight problem I have with it is the fact that, though the stunt work is brilliant, Bruce's stunt double doesn't look remotely like him!

How do people rank the Die Hards anyway? For me...

1. Die Hard (by a distance)
2. Die Hard with a Vengence (badly edited and the ending sucks but Simon is a great bad guy and Willis/Jackson make a good team)
3. 4.0. More consistant than 3, and Justin Long is great as the sidekick, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead convincing as little Lucy McClane. Let down by over the top stunts, killing off Maggie Q too early, and Timothy Olaphant is a really dull villain.
4. Die Hard 2; Die Harder. It tries, but whereas 4.0 in particular overdoes things, 2 seems to under do them. Interesting plot twist (which I saw coming when the soldiers swapped mags) but really the limpest of the quartet. Amazing that a film where the badguys include Luthar Slone and a T1000 yet still come across bland...plus points for horribly murdering Chief O'Brien though

Die Hard
Die Hard 4 - a lot better than I expected it to be, despite McClane now being more of a generic superhero
Die Hard 2 - good mindless fun
Die Hard With A Vengeance - don't get me wrong, I love it, but something had to come last, and this has a very limp finale.

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking with the finale of 3, ideally it would have been better to have simon get away with it, then bring back Jeremy Irons for 4!
