When I was a kid my dad would force me to watch the most boring documentaries. I truly, truly hated it. I just found them so slow and uninteresting and depressing. Because they were never done in a fun or entertaining way but a droning emotionless voice and lots of still images and whatnot. God, I hated it!

How bout you?

I voted no, but I certainly watched documentaries with my parents when I was a kid. It was because I wanted to, though.

I avoided documentaries in general except on the subjects I was truly interested in - as a kid, this was mostly shows on space travel, astronomy, science in general, wildlife programmes with Sir David Attenborough, and maybe other things related to subjects learned in school. As a child, I had no interest in the "real life" documentaries such as the epic ITV documentary series "Jimmy's" which now is probably a shame.

I can't say that my parents forced me to watch something I didn't like. Rather, and more usually, it was the other way around. :D

No, rather, I watched them of my own perogative! Especially if they were about astromony. I loved shows like "Nova" as a kid.

No my parents didn't force me to watch anything, but in a way I wish they had. I totally agree that most documentaries are dreadfully produced and presented. They are starting to come around now though after the BBC discovered sending a 'Python' around the World was very entertaining.
With wildlife though I'd still take Steve Irwin rather than Attenborough ~ just more watchable *shrugs*

No. I watched documentaries on subjects that interested me if they were well done, and felt no pressure to watch any that didn't interest me.

No, I wasn't made to watch anything or prohibited since there wasn't anything racy on any of the 4 stations as we suffer today.

I really don't remember anything that might have been a documentary except shows like Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. We'd watch all the Jacques Cousteau specials.

My dad forced me to watch Star Trek when I was a kid.

God only knows how that's affected me.

*looks around* Oh, God! The humanity!! :scream:

I had my own TV. My parents really had little to no input on what I watched on it. I did watch documentaries though, still do.

No. I watched documentaries because I wanted to especially wildlife documentaries. This included David Attenborough's Zoo Quest series and the wildlife programs of Armand and Michaela Denis.

Sir David is by far my favourite wildlife presenter.

However my mother did force me to watch her favourite movie genre which was musicals. I was taken to the cinema to see The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Paint My Wagon etc and I remember her making me sit througjh Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Singing in the Rain when they were on TV

Me too. Cosmos was a big part of my childhood. I loved it...still do.

Also I love watching IMAX documentaries, such as Super Speedway, Cosmic Voyage, Space Station, etc.

I guess "yes" -- but it got to a point where I watched them because I wanted to anyway. History Channel and Discovery Channel top my list even today.
